V6 camshaft???..

Hello all...I was searching for some past threads in hoping someone had posted some opinions on the different V6 cams likes/dislikes.reason I ask is I am getting ready to install some ported heads on my slightly stock 3.1 and really havent decided on the cam yet.I was looking for something that has a slight or noticeable idle..but not irratic. The car is used daily back and forth to work mainly.I was considering the comps 260 cam,mtc-5,or the edelbrock 3790.I understand that some cams arent computer friendly...what can I expect from these non-computer cam?.does that mean I will have problems with the computer function?..And will these cams handle stock valve springs?..someone told me to have the valve pockets enlarged to install stock v8 springs,to handle the extra lift/seat press? Shoot me some thoughts...

I didn't spend the money on a name brand cam, Delta Camshafts does regrinds for short money. I got the 260h copy from Delta for $100 including lifters. Just the cam was $55 IIRC. A new cam from them just over $100.

I never got to install it before I spun a rod bearing, now it's getting traded for a manifold . I am trying to work out a deal on a 3.4, so I'm no longer going to need it.

If you do a search, Daves12secv6 has posted sound clips of a similar cam.

Re: V6 camshaft???..

yes A+ on delta i have the same cam as them two. its sounds awesome, its loopy as hell on my car until it gets some gas, then it flatens right out. as for performance i have completley tested that out yet, but i will tell you its a big diffrence compared to stock.

those soundclips were with a much larger cam then the 260

the 260 is a great cam
the mtc5 isnt actually as big as u think it is since they measure duration @001 or something instead of duration @050.
lunati also makes some nice cams

but for the price u cant beat the delta 260 regrind

I was on the understanding you could go much bigger than the 260 without computer tuning?

Re: V6 camshaft???..

one of my friends was bure chips for me at that time, not that they really helped anyway.the only thing that really made it a lil easier is it was a maf car.
maf cars arent affected as bad by a low vacum at idle, unlike a sd car

Re: V6 camshaft???..

cooltc2004,That sounds pretty radical...Since I'm leaning towards the MTC-5 I know some have/had this cam in their v6 ,can you guys tell me if it sounds like it has a cam or does it idle smooth? I have noticed that Summit lists the cam itself having a 110 lobe sep. and the kit with lifters has a 107 lobe sep..The 110 is computer friendly while the 107 isnt, but their both a MTC-5?..I am confused. What is the specs for this cam?.anybody

Okay firstfirebird...I think with that reply I am offically braindead. Now dont get upset at me,I am trying to understand something.is the 260h a delta part number or are you comparing it to the comps cam 260H or MTC-5?,cause if you are the 260H comps is a single pattern cam where as your specs are a dual pattern cam?..and your duration is nowhere near a 260?.

Re: V6 camshaft???..

This is mild turbo grind that is similar to the 260h. The exhaust closes a little earlier to help boost.

260 is advertised duration .

Re: V6 camshaft???..

Okay since you cleared that up...I see the Lobe Sep. is about 112 how is the idle like on this cam?..and I am assuming no computer mods necessary with this cam too?..

Re: V6 camshaft???..

This is about as big as you can get out of a regrind, and no computer mods needed. Pairtoe will tell you it idles nice with some lop.

yeah i really like the idle on this cam. its sounds awesome and levels out once you touch the gas. it has some lop, mine sounds like a pro stock car with the open headers but if you car is basically stock it will sound nice.

On that regrind, do you send them a stock cam and they modify it, how does Delta do that exactly?

Just like Discount (or other stores), you buy theirs and send back yours.

BUT!!! Delta is good, they waived my core and gave me free shipping (I live far from their warehouse).

Two thumbs up for Delta...
