CAM gurus, help with turbo cam specs
Calling all cam gurus...
This is posted in the V6 section only because I am unsure if V8 cams would carrry a different profile to be benificial to me in a 6er.
I need some help selecting a turbo cam. I'm probably going to go with a re-grind from Delta. I've seen some specs that other people are using on the V6's and just don't know if my stock cam gan be grond to them.
The specs are :
.496/.500 valve lift, 214/222 duration, 109 IC, 113 LSA
(I've heard 114 LSA might be better)
I also need to know if this is too much if I'm using 1.6 roller rockers, I'll be getting some new springs soon as well so any suggestions would be appreciated.

our old mod on here, doward, had the melling mtc-5, and he said it just loved boost. i dont know a whole lot about matching cams w/ turbos and all that so i cant give you advise, but thats what he said about it.
what ever happened to doward anyway??

Dunno, I'll PM him though since I'm not in a big rush right now. I broke a valve spring with the 1.7 rockers and getting ready to dig deep to do the cam swap anyways...hmmm
the mtc-5 isw alright but there is so much better that can be had.(ntc-s is a pretty small cam to begin with thats why it works good with boost)
first just got in the door from work and i have the specs on my desktop computer, but my gf is on that comp right now so soon as shes done ill post u some specs

Eventually yes. I thought this build was going to be a piece at a time so I could get results at the track for each step. Although it looks like the car is gonna go back together with a pile of mods on it, haha.

Do you still have the specs on the old turbo cam? (The one that was on your sound clip "exhaust help").
I'm going to call this week to order, so I'll use your specs as a guide and just talk to them. I checked out Delta's website and it was lacking info, but you get a free t-shirt with your order, ,lol.
id be carefull i dont know how well that it will run with the stock ecm,it may not run or it may run
----------
i would dbl check in the diy prom board, i didnt worry about it with mine since i knew i was gonna go with a standalone system

That's why I wanted the specs on your old cam, that way I could upgrade later (for less than $100 especially). I can get back to you before I order and see what they say.
Actually looking again that intake is really early!

not really thats about the time the pistion stops moving at tdc,so the valve is open further as the pistion starts to move down,
id actually try opening the valve a few degress earlier then that but it have to be worked out with the ex valve timming so u dont get ex flowing into the intake under boost

[QUOTE=Street Lethal;3232792][quote=firstirebird](I've heard 114 LSA might be better)...
220/218 .500/.500 114+2 what valve timming? that only has 2* more then what i listed on the ex side
that wopuld work with the wider lsa, since u could spread the intaske/ex events apart alil more

You mean use your cam with more seperation? I'm going to call Delta today and see what they say and get back before I actually order. Don't forget I'm using the stock tune temporarily, so it has to be compatible with the ECM.

I need to know what static and dynamic compression levels, otherwise it'd be speculative on my part to recommend certain valve events, lobes (ramp rates) and overlap. Too many variables, that's why I mainly suggested a base in which to draw boosted camshaft grind ideas from...

Went with a mild grind .440 was the max lift with a re-ground cam. Got the cam and lifters for $100 and he even waved the core charge and gave me a free t-shirt

No, they said I could go more although unnecessary with my application. That's OK with me anyways, for $125 I can upgrade later when I'm finished with most of the mods. Remember I'm using the stock tune.
u basically jut bought a crane cams 260h which is also recomended as a mild turbo cam,its a nice cam for an n/a motor .though when i called them about getting a cam custom made i inquired about that cam and they told me it would not be good above 8-12 psi.though i had given them the specs on my aluminum heads and not my iron heads.
That's perfect, then. I'll get a new cam when I'm ready, actually I'm very happy cansidering I got the cam and lifters for that price. This means I can keep the new cam and use the stocker for a core later

. Hey Dave you asked for a sound clip of the 1.7RR's, didn't get one before they were out. Today I looked for that noise that I suspected was a broken spring, well it wasn't. So while I had the valve covers off I switched to 1.6RR's and recorded a vid after (not as nice as the 1.7's)...

Re: CAM gurus, help with turbo cam specs
I know this an old thread, but I think it deserves a bump just because of that cam spec sheet. I put that into Dyno2000 with an Air Reaserch T03 turbo and got a nice TQ curve. It starts over 200TQ from 2k RPM and just keeps going up till 5K where the HP kicks in at 230+ and peaks at almost 300 at 7K
I'm going to definatly use this cam.
(I know those numbers are not 100% acurate, but the program dose a good job of showing what works together and what dosent though.)
