Whoa... I get dizzy just looking at traxion's intro! I'm obviously new to this, so what prom burning equipment do you reccomend? Or are they all basically the same?

Re: V6 ecm tuning

i actuly do not do my own PROM tuning.... YET. i am still in the collecting information stage.

read through that stuff. otherwise you are going to spend $500 on hardware, download your .bin and have no freaking clue what to do with it. the best thing to do is going to be this: head to the regional board sections and find some guys in your area that do PROM tuning. ask them about it. get together with them and watch them burn a chip. etc.. they can recommend some stuff for you to try out and perhaps even let you come over and have some hand son with their equipment.

about a year ago i joined up with a local club in my area (got their website from the regional boards) and have actulay had one of my fellow club members burn me a chip. i am looking to get into doing my own burning soon. but there is much reading to be done 1st.

Re: V6 ecm tuning

i looked into this a couple months ago, i have a friend who does it and he found that, depending on what ECM you have, you may need to get a different one because there isnt a complete set of bin files.

How did the burn go for you dave? I was thinking of doing the same with my 2.8 cpu and tuning it to the 3.4? Have you noticed anything different with the gas mileage since doing your burn? Not really worried about the power difference just economy.

That's what I'd like to do at least. I'm tempted to find a 3.1 at the junkyard and pull everything I'd need to convert it to MAP with the 730 ECM tuned to the 3.1 (much closer to 3.4 than my 2.8 tuned 302 which has no support)

Or the megasquirt.

Re: V6 ecm tuning

megasquirt is the best way to go since you can do whatever you want......, if you know what youre doing. otherwise, you better find someone who knows what to do and you better find a better ECM than the 302.

Re: V6 ecm tuning

Hence the need for me to get a truck ( taking the quad to the dunes, snowboarding, etc) or to get one of my other problem plagued cars driveable so I can mess around with the firebird.
