Will not start

Ok my problem started with a blown head gasket. Replaced both of those built the motor back up. Went to start it and nothing engine turns over and i get a burst of compression from the front of the plenum. I,ve tried putting it at TDC and re dropping the distributer still the same ole thing. any help would be apreciated.

Re: Will not start

Have you checked for spark. Verify that all wires are hooked up correctly.

Re: Will not start

You get air blowing out of the intake? Sounds like valves are open/to tight. Or if you took the timing chain off, you installed it 180 off.

Re: Will not start

yes air out of the intake. i did not remove the timing chain. i could swear i got the valves right. Found TDC tightened exhaust valves 1 2 3 and intake valves 1 5 6 until lash was removed and gave them another 1 1/2 turns, turned the engine one revolution then tightend the rest as long as i got the valves correct. Passenger side is odds with 1 in the front correct?

Re: Will not start

yea i had a friend stick his thumb over the hole until he felt compression after that we tightened down the rods until we could not spin them by hand and gave them another turn and a half

Thats to much. Lash is up/down movement, not spinning (been big debate on this).

Try doing a compression check, I bet you have little/no compression.

Re: Will not start

Uh, it partly depends on CI, compression, and milage on the motor. I dont think I ever got below a 120 when I wasnt having problems? Maybe some others can comment on that part.

Re: Will not start

Did you do a compression check after you were done? Or if you have a vac gauge, throw it on and check.
