charcoal canister removal

My buddy stripped the one wire going into the charcoal canister so short that i cant rap connect them again. I remeber reading that if i remove the entire system i just have to get a vented gas cap. Is that true and will it hurt the engine?

Re: charcoal canister removal

the only reason its there is for emissions. if you remove it all and get a vented cap, yes you can do it. but as far as i know, even if the solenoid doesnt activate you dont have to remove the system, just leave it.

Re: charcoal canister removal

Just go to the parts store and tell them you want a vented cap for your car. They are $5, at least the one I bought. You have to vent it to equalize the pressure from the gas getting sucked up. If you don't then you pretty much starve your engine cause the pump can't pull any more gas.

Re: charcoal canister removal

^^^ That and evaporating fuel needs an escape. With the canister it is stored, and released back into the engine.

Re: charcoal canister removal

what do you do to plug the vacuum line holes on the throttle body? i'm thinking about just taking this emissions stuff out eventually.

They sell the caps at auto parts stores.

They are little rubber one. You may also be able to find one at the hardware store.

Re: charcoal canister removal

I yanked mine out a while back because it was ugly. Haven't noticed any problems yet.
