i need help, check engine light is on, low fuel pump voltage, so i replaced the pump, ehh didn't fix my problem, the car runs fine for a while but when i get to a stop light, it stops running and i have to wait about 5 minutes or so, so it stars again, i took it to a shop the guy told me that it could be the distributor (he used his scanner and that was what he got as a code something to do with low voltage, i can't remember what the code was), so i went ahead and replaced distributor as well as the cap, rotor and plugs, still running rich, i replaced the ECM, oil presure switch, map sensor, ignition coil, Egr valve and still doing the same thing and it wont pass the smog check due to a high % of fuel not getting burn! does anyone could think of anything else?? vaccum hoses?!!we checked them all! i am about to put in a new cat..and O2 sensor hopping that this will solve my problem. Any Ideas?

 

It could be your o2 disconect you exhaust manifolds and run open it will be loud and see if that fixs your problem. Check that before replacing the cat.

Start trouble shooting.

Basics
Check compression
Intake for a vaccum leak
Timing chain
timing
Collant temp sensor very cheap like 10.00
Vaccum with a vaccum gauge.

Use intake cleaner while running and spray around all the gaskets and see if rpm increase. If it does then its a vaccum leak

I would lean toward and o2 sensor or a copllant temp sensor

 

Do you know how to check the codes yourself?

 

no idea.

 

get a paper clip or something will make a good connection. look under your dash and you will see a computer hookup unit. cross the pins on the last top and the last bottom (towards passenger side. farthest from driver door). it will blink a code 3 times before going to the next code. ... i think you have to have the car in the ON position.

good luck. post your codes and maybe search them.

 

thanks for the update, coolant temp sensor sounds like a possibility, since i've noticed that the car dies once it reaches a cetain temp, and sometimes the fan will take a while to turn on! just reaplaced the o2, i will do the coolant temp tomorrow morning!thanks.

 

what about the fuel pressure regulator??

 

haven't check that, i think i should, i just put in a new cat and O2, it passed the smog check but still running like **** and the check engine light its still on! i am gonna check the FPR. thanks

 

My money is on the Multec fuel injectors. . .
