i just put a new starter on my 92 rs with a 3.1 V6. 15 minutes after that my car started dropping rpm very badly when i'd pull up to a stop sign. never did it while the car was in neutral. the car has died on me while braking going around a corner. the people i've talked to keep telling me its my battery but i've had it tested at 2 different places. its an Optima Red Top. i've also got a system in my car with a cap. had the alt. tested and it kept the battery charged up to 14.3 volts and the alt was suppose to put out 105 amps but only it only put out 64 amps. both places said that it was fine tho. other than that i'm not sure what the problem is. help would be much appreciated.

 

Auto or 5spd? IAC probably needs to be cleaned, and the throttle blade, along with the IAC passages. Could be a TCC solenoid issue if it's an auto.

 

its an a/t. my grand pa suggested i go back to the very beginning and take the starter out and just do it over again and i did and i found some wires i had hand tightened a nut on but not fully tightened. i took and fixed that and took the car for a drive and so far nothing has happened. stupid mistake made cuz of being in a rush to get it done. do you think thats all it could have been or could there still be a problem with the iac or the tcc?

 

well if your electrical system wasn't getting power, that'd be a pretty serious problem. As long as it doesn't stall at stops I wouldn't worry about it.

Something to consider...anytime you remove battery power while doing repairs these ECM's needs to relearn idle.Its called Idle Relearn Procedure.Have to remember that these cars are still the first generation ECM's.Do a search and you will find the procedure ..unless you have a tech I scanner which has the relearn mode in it ..you will have to manually do it.If you dont do this procedure the idle can be irractic since the ECM doesnt know where idle RPMS are supposed to be?.
