What about ARI engines?
Looking to pull a 3.4 from the yard, but came across a reference to ARI Engines. Wouldn't a 3.4 with ported and polished heads and a nice cam from ARI make more sense than a crapshoot engine from a boneyard and rebuilding and repairing someone elses problems?

It all depends on what youre looking for and how much money you want to spend. Not everyone can/wants to spend $2895 on an engine...but if you do you know it will work. So it all depends on you.

Am I missing something, because I don't see a 3.4L on ARI's website. Just 2.8's and 2.8 stroker kits.

That price may actually be worth it. This is what I figure it would cost you elsewhere to piece it together.
2.8-3.4L Stroker Shortblock with motor mounts and starter location for your vehicle. <-- $25
Hypereutectic Pistons ($36/ea, $216)
Phase 2 Camshaft & Lifter Kit (~$100 from Delta Cam)
Performance Cylinder Heads ($600-$800/set)
Clevite Cam Bearings ($34)
Brass Freeze Plugs (~$20)
Roller Tip Rocker Arms (1.52 or 1.6 ratio) $10.95/ea($131.40)
Fel-Pro Complete Gasket Set($127)
Double-Roller Timing Set ($100)
Stock Oil Pump($50)
Head Bolts($25)
Stock Pushrod Set ($1.49/ea, $17.88)
Timing Chain Dampner ($10-$20?)
Professional In-House Assembly (~$200)
All prices, except the estimate on heads and assembly, are from Summit or PartsAmerica. Head work is a rough estimate based on what I've heard, assuming you go all out, and assembly is the price my shop charges. That totals up to $1866 and does not include the price to get the original block and heads, nor the machine work required on the block and crank, which will run you another $400-$500 easily. Assuming the high end of an additional $700 for machine work on block and the cost to get it from a junkyard($200), you come to a grand total of $2566. That leaves you saving $600 after shipping versus theirs. For all the trouble, $600 might be worth it.

That is what I am thinking... plus, what is my time worth for the incidental labor(pulling one from a junkyard, hauling it home, disassembling it, sending out the parts etc)? And finally, it shows up in a crate ready to drop in- no parts spread out all over the place for months, just yank the old one, open the crate and drop in the new!

My stock 3.4 build is right around $1200 now, with ~$400 of that being in machine work alone, and they didn't even touch the heads this time around.

All the machine work I did on the block is done by tools you can buy on ebay etc
Hand hone, tq seq/ftlbs according to factory etc.
If anybody is serious abut buying a complete engine from us, we will not hesitate , that was the point.
If you can tune your engine (chips comming soon for the conversions), you can easily see 200+ to the wheels, that's LT1 terrotory :P
EDIT: Yes, all stock parts except cam and headers, but the RWD headers can be easily adapted to work on FWD heads, I posted a thread a couple days ago showing how. You don't realize how good these heads are, if you owned a 3800, heads that flow slightly better are going to cost you $1800! Ported is another story, as soon as i get done with the laest sale, headers will be done, and you guys will ahve numbers soon...
14 flat is the plan with stock suspension and one legged rear. (ie stock car with my motor and ECM in it - tuned of course).

hey just so u guys know if any of u are planning a rebuild anytime soon when i assembled my motor and went to get the timing chain quide i found out they have been discontinued,so if ur going for a timing chain swap anytime soon i would hurry out and pick up the guide i bought the last 3 my local pepboys had for 60 cents each they are normally 10 and change each
