I'd do a full rebuild, personally, if it's over 150k.

Re: v6 rebuild or upgrades

If you are thinking about doing a rebuild then go ahead and do it and add the cam with it. Just with a rebuild you should notice an improvement in power just from getting power back from the high miles and even more from the cam.

Re: v6 rebuild or upgrades

im comparing the pricing on rebuilding and a 350 swap, and its looking a little more attractive for a swap right now. different shops are giving me cheaper prices for swapping motor and trans. havent fully decided but im leaning to swap.

Re: v6 rebuild or upgrades

If you're going to have a shop do it for you a 350 swap may be the better way to go, but you'll save a ton doing it yourself.

if u have a shop do a v8 swap make sure they install a new front brake line instead of bending the v6 line to clear.
try to do an l98 swap if thats the way ur gonan go

Re: v6 rebuild or upgrades

If its an aluminum DS then I would grab it, otherwise no. Also something else to replace would be the front springs.

Re: v6 rebuild or upgrades

i think going im getting the 305 and 700r4. i think it would be the easiest bolt in because i got an rs and that was a factory option. plus im paying a damn good price. springs makes sense, would i need different struts as well? i am going have a shop put it in, but getting everything i need so there is no extra 'oh you needed this too' charges. would my v6 shaft hold/bolt up to the trans?

Re: v6 rebuild or upgrades

If you've decided to go V8, go to the Engine Swap forum. There is a motherload of information on the v6-v8 swap, detailing exactly what works and what doesn't, what you need from the donor, what you need new, etc.

Re: v6 rebuild or upgrades

You also need a different radiator, fuel pump, trans and motor mounts. The v6 driveshaft is a little lighter than even the aluminum driveshafts, or so I've been told.
