Wrong Flywheel? need a quick answer

The rattling from my car was the flywheel, it was ****ed and about to break. About to look like Dave's did. Anyways I got it replaced with one from a 3.4 that I had laying around in the garage but now the car has a significant vibration while driving or in park. Its not that bad at idle or around 3K RPM. Other than that it will rattle your teeth out. Could I have used the wrong flywheel? I'm going to check out some other things on the motor. Before I took it to the mechanic it didn't vibrate at all, now after it is. The mechanic is going to check it out tommorrow so maybe its something easy.

89 Camaro auto, not sure if the flywheel came from an auto or manual car if it matters.

Doing a search I have the wrong flywheel. The 2.8 has a flywheel that is balanced and the 3.4 does not correct? With the 3.4 flywheel am I fine to drive the car for a few days till I can get another one and would I be OK driving 300 miles and going to an autox event that I have planned on running in for a while?

if ur flexplate is cracked do not drive it,thats asking to get stranded somewere.once the crack makes it so far around the flexplate, the weight of the tc will make it flex and wobble causing it to continue cracking more until it fails like mine did.

autozone man i think the flexplate was 48$'s

Re: Wrong Flywheel? need a quick answer

I already swapped out the old flywheel. I was about to look like yours. Only like 2 or 3 of the bolt holes didn't have cracks between them. Right now I have a flywheel from a 3.4 on there. The thing is is that the old flywheel has a counterweight on it and the one from the 3.4 does not. Isn't the 87+ 2.8 motors internally balanced so there is no need for a balanced flywheel?

I'm driving the car right now, I have to but am going easy on it and driving as least as possible. I'm just trying to find out where my motor came from. Now its looking like it isn't the original motor and is from a previous 87 car.

If I do order a balanced flywheel say for an 86. When I get it installed does it matter on the position of the flywheel on the crank or not. I will prbably get is fixed early next week.

oh well ifu swaped it and now its vibrating cause of the wrong flywheel it can hammer on the main bearings,so u deff dont want to drive it.and the flexplate can only be installed in one position,if its not in the right place the bolt holes wont line up

Re: Wrong Flywheel? need a quick answer

Ok that makes sense. I'm only driving the car because I have to. My dad's Camaro is apart right with some very shot suspension bushings so I can't drive his truck around. I'm taking it easy on the car, won't drive tommorrow and will probably get it fixed Monday or Tuesday.

Here is the flywheel that was pulled off of the car:

What year Camaro should I order the flywheel for. It was about to go and has a weight on it.
