Re: 2.8l stroker

Yep, GM, the wrecking yard, other people.....

A 3.1 is basically a 2.8L that has been stroked.

The above link makes hype of something that is easily available and easy to find.

Re: 2.8l stroker

id say spend your money on what youve got and improving it, stroking to 3.1 wont give much hp for the hassle, unless of course your taking your engine out and stripping it down anyways???? then go get some junkyard parts

Re: 2.8l stroker

i have plans on putting a Dynomax Performance catback exhaust, PaceSetter Performance headers, MagnaFlow high flow cat., 2 k&n air filters, Hypertech computer chip, Mallory High Performance Replacement Coils, Mallory Unilite Distributor. is there any other small cheap things i can do to my 2.8l to get the horse power up? or does any one know any parts that are better to use then i put up or that are cheaper and do the same thing? im new with the 2.8l and i dont really know where to go to get the after market parts for it so far this is all from summit racing.

Re: 2.8l stroker

I see where you are going with the upgrades 87Camaro, all those things you mentioned will give you extra hp but it'll only be very small improvements from what I've herd from the guys on here, which then begs the question is it worth it? I think the only surefire way of getting more hp from the V6 is either to go with a Turbo (think someone does a kit on here?) or drop in a 3.4 from a 4th gen. As far as I know the 2.8, 3.1, and the later 3.4 are all very much the same and will drop into exsiting engine mounts. (correct me if i'm wrong guy's??) The only other thing you could do would be to put a V8 in. As for shops that sell all that stuff, well I live in the UK and as you can imagine we don't have one's that sell any upgrades for the Camaro/Firebird! My Firebird is stock which is just as well seeing how gas is $2.4 a litre over here!!!!!! Anyway, summit is just about the best place for all your speed stuff I get most of my bits from them (spark plugs, filters etc) Sure someone'll shoot me down about that lot but thats what i think anyway

Speed.

Re: 2.8l stroker

Re: 2.8l stroker

either pull a 3.4, or grab a newer 3.8 from the later camaro's... our 2.8/3.1's are outdated and won't give you the mpg like the newer 3.8's or 3.4's

Re: 2.8l stroker

alot more work as the 3.8 is a 90 degree engine and completly different. the 3.4 is the same as the 2.8/3.1 blocks and slots straight in. if you know what your doing the 3.8 is a sweet motor - i had one in my 4th gen maro.

Re: 2.8l stroker

If your 2.8 is running fine and you're just looking for more power... put a turbo on it. I have a bolt on turbo kit for sale that I can't use anymore if interested.

Re: 2.8l stroker

hahaha, no thats ok. I was just asking for a friend we were talking about if it was easy to do or not. I'd like to go turbo, but I don't have the money and I'm putting my build together now anyway.

So true! There was one for sale last month in a Worksop scrap yard but by the time I found out it'd been sent to the smelters!
Just as well mines running like a dream!

Re: 2.8l stroker

I've been asking $500 or best offer for:
-garrett t3 50 trim turbo
-modified y-pipe with stainless turbo flange
-stainless steel down pipe with adjustable internal wastegate and O2 sensor bung
-used 19# injectors from 86 Trans Am 305tpi
*good for 7 psi

For the "stage 2" kit I've been asking $700 which includes:
-above parts
-modified MAF ecm with custom chip
-24# LT1 injectors
-to4e 60 trim compressor housing (currently installed on turbo)
*good for 8-10 psi (then you need an FMU or V8 MAF because the MAF sensor maxes out)

All you will need are oil lines and intake pipes (intercooler if desired). The 3.1 engine requires custom tuning. Other than that, this is a pretty straight forward bolt-on. I can show you where to get oil lines for cheap.

I also have some stock exhaust manifolds with some pretty new bolts that I've been offering free with the kit, but since the buyer pays all shipping it just adds shipping cost.

A link to a folder with some old pictures that have these parts in them:
