I've been looking and trying to find pistons for the 3.1 in my '91 bird that have a different compression ratio than factory, anyone know where to find them? I've searched in here and done some on the web, but the most I've seen so far is factory compression ratio.

 

2.8 pistons work and you can get some from fierostore.com. You should be good.

 

I thought they moved the wrist pin closer to the top of the piston for the 3.1 because of the increased stroke over the 2.8..... Fierostore.com is only 9.5 compression anyway, I was thinking like 10:1 or more if possible.

 

Then get the heads machined down a couple thousands and hope the pistons don't hit the valves. Im trying to remember but the 3400 dohc pistons will have valve reliefs and you can be safe with shaving the head, or you can just go for a hybrid set up and get some pretty good CR's out of that. Other option is costly but Ross makes custom pistons for the 60v6 but I guess if you want to keep the paper weight iron heads they are worth it.

 

2.8 pistons won't work, 3.4 pistons are to big. The only options you have with the 3.1 is 600-700 dollar set of pistons or do the hybrid swap. If you don't want a hybrid you could get you a 3.4 and put the 3.4 dohc pistons in it for I believe about 10.0 compression. The hybrid swaps put you between 11.0-12.5 compression which will take tuning and from what i've seen so far isn't very starter friendly.

hello, I bought a set of JE forged pistons for my 3.1L engine. they were custom made to accomidate a twin turbo set up with 7psi booste and a 150 shot of nos. they were a bit pricey tho. Im looking to get rid of them along with a bunch of other performance parts for that motor. im looking to get rid of the entire engine and all the parts actually. the engine is completely dissassembled and was bored .040 over. I have a double roller timeing chain and gears and performance fuel injectors, and a perfomance cam kit from crane cams, if you are interested in any of it let me know

i was gonna say, those things are all over the forums, a mod needs to start deleting them or something...

 

they were expensive. I paid near 800 for them. Dave anderson at ARI can do them for you.

 

yeah custom forged pistons work out to about 125$'s each
they arent cheap

or 3.4 shortblock with dohc pistons to being u to 10-1 cr
