Anyone has headers/exhaust on a 2.8L
Anyone has headers/exhaust on a 2.8L
Whats the best exhaust/headers combination for the 89 firebird with a 2.8L engine? opinions? prices?
does the exhaust from a stock 89 camaro RS (2.8L) fit without any modifications?

The only set for an f-body that I know of is the pace setters, I paid 230 for the headers, y-pipe, and installation hardware new. It bolted up to my cat, there not the funnest project. You wont feel any difference, I just did them because my manifolds/y-pipe were bad and I planned on building up the 2.8. Unless you plan on doing a bigger cam, head work, etc etc, I'd just go with a nice cat back first.

Well I'm telling you right now, please dont go flowmaster, makes a 2.8 sound like a chainsaw. I've heard pretty decent things about dynomax super-turbo, which is relatively cheap. But the best sound I've heard on a 2.8 is probably a magnaflow.

Re: Anyone has headers/exhaust on a 2.8L
why would you spend any money at all on a 6?
if you want to spend money go buy a low mileage 5.7 and be done with it. make sure its newer than 86 though.
get a nice long block crate engine, it will feel like a rocket after that 6 you are dragging around.

Not sure about the 2.8 but my 3.8 sounds good with headers and open cutout after the cat. Nice and loud with a good rumble through out RPM's.
BUT it rasps after around 4500 and yeah, Some hate some like it. Me? I like it. Its nothing like a honda or any other 4 cyl.
If you want quiet though, Summit has a nice turbo muffler for 30$ shipped.
Sounds good and doesnt rasp through out most rpm's. And its not as quiet as stock though.

I feel like people say this alot but, we buy our v6's cause we like them, plain and simple, I have a smallblock and a 60*. I love both, its all in the love of the car, you should be able to respect that.

Not sure about the stock 2.8 but my 2.8 stroker sounds good with headers and open cutout after the cat. Nice and loud with a good rumble through out RPM's.

I have the pacesetter headers and the Dynomax superturbo muffler and it does have a nice rumble at idle and low rpms. Get the rpms higher and it does become raspy. Nice comment I had though a few weeks back from a guy driving a 350Z. He asked me if I had changed the engine. I said it was now a 2.8 stroker. Got a respectful nod and a smile.
About the V8 comment, my daily driver is my V6 Firebird and I get much better gas mileage than my V8 GTA and given the way commuting is at 80 km each way, the increased gas mileage and the heavier clutch on my GTA makes it a lot less fun to drive than my V6 5-speed Firebird. If it was clear, winding roads, and the sun shining, give me my GTA, but for the daily drudge realities of everyday....it's the V6 Firebird by a country mile.

Heh my V6 has been WAY more reliable then my old '87 5.7 GTA as well. Hell with a decent gear setup this car would be faster then my GTA was too.
Better mpg too.
