Help 2.8 problems
OK guy i need some help i have a 89 rs with a 2.8 mpfi i had the pick up coil go out so i had to pull the dizzy out thought i put it back it the right way but when i start it to time it i rn like crap so i replaces the timing set and the water pump took the plenum of so that i could change the thermostat and decided to go ahead and replace the upper engine gasket (intake, lower plenum, upper plenum, valve cover and so) so when i got the intake off i notce that the gasket sit behind the push rods and of course 20 year old motor that it is the gaskets were shot so i rotated the motor whatch the valves open one the first cylinder alined the balencer marker to zero then notice that my dizzy was pointed and the number four postion.
no matter how many time i turn it the valve and balencer maker dont match the rotor location of the dizzy anyone have a clue did i some how put the dizzy in 180 out
any help would be great oh and is there any info on this site about doing a valve job on a 2.8

Re: Help 2.8 problems
Easy to fix. If you have your engine set at TDC, all you need to do is to turn the oil pump driveshaft slightly until you have the distributor rotor pointing to #1 cylinder. From there, you can rotate the engine slightly to set it at 10 degrees and it should fire right up when everything else is connected (plug wires, vacuum lines, etc.).

Re: Help 2.8 problems
you don't have to worry about pulling you dizzy out. just have cyl 1 at TDC, look where the rotor is. have your dizzy so the timing is about where it should be. it'll be in between 2 posts on your cap. put the #1 wire on the one the rotor just passed.
Re: Help 2.8 problems
so if i understad correctly i doesnt matter where the rotor sits as long as after i get it to tdc i change the wire locating making a new number one postion on the cap then follow the firing order from the new number one location

Re: Help 2.8 problems
exactly, it just makes it easier to have the rotor pointing to the right cylinder, but thats not at all nessesary.
