just curious about other peoples milage on the 2.8l v6. i just bought one for 300 bucks with some body damage and it needed a trany mount. got the car all fixed up. its ready to go on the road. im also going to do a tune up on it. im not sure when any thing was last doen to the car. i drove it about 30 miles home from where i bout. it it drives real nice and handels great minus it needing the new tranny mout but i just fixed that and whiped it around the block real quick. the car has 135,000 miles on it does any one think this is high milage for this motor. i havea friend with a s10 with the same motor he has about 210,000 miles on it with the original motor. My car surprised me with how much power it has. its pritty peppy. nothing like my buddies 87 with a 350 in it. with all kinds of work done to it. he has about 425 horse at the rear wheels. but i still like my car just fine. plus i bought it to save gas money this summer. i cant drive my old truck every where.

 

I'm 100 miles from 200k. I bought mine for $800 with 190k miles. It was still running good when I bought it. I've replaced some bolt-ons and did a tune-up, so it runs even better now.


Update: I just hit 200k miles today!

 

Well, my rearend has 244K on it. Don't know about the engine or transmission, though, both of which have been replaced. My 2.8 had 195,239.7 on it when yanked due to the #4 rod splitting into 4 pieces, and my 700R4 got yanked when it started failing at 213,813.6 miles...

I have 300,000 miles origional engine. I have had the car since I was 16 I am now 26 and yes it still goes. Cant beat that now the MPG on the other hand has gone down I got 130 miles so far on 3/4 of a tank of gas lol. Probably time for a tuneup.

170000 kilometers (that would make 105633 miles)

 

202,000 waiting for it to die so i can replace it with a 3.4.

Got an 88 Sport Coupe with the 2.8 liter in it last November had it safetied etested and drove it for a month then parked it for the winter payed $2,000 for it it and it has 79,000 miles on it.Runs good and drives good just getting started on this project. Will be needing some help from you guys.

Hi mine has 190,000+ miles on it and runs great i've taken friends for a ride years ago and it scared them and still runs as strong if not stronger now because i've done small upgrades.

 

i just turned over 240,000 and still running
fine.

 

i just bought a 85. the body has 159,000 and it has a little bit of damage but no rust. the motor was rebuilt at 150,000. it was rebuilt before i got it so i dont know why they rebuilt it. but runs and drives strong.

 

293,000 miles (bought at 65,000) on original motor (only "engine" work was my timing chain), third 700r4 trans, third rear. The engine still starts up right away (well, when the battery's in it, that is) and runs nice & strong!

That'll be a long wait; might as well get the 3.4 and freshen it up while you wait

 

We have 135,000 on ours and running great...... This picture is when we first got it home.

 

mine just clicked 140k. in celebration, tomorrow im gifting it with some much needed maintenance items

performance is definately lacking though... 135hp/160tq in a 3200lb car is a bit boring. since my other car is a LT4 Corvette, i may be a little spoiled though

I have an 88 2.8L with 85,000 original miles on it but I'm climbing the big wall soon and swapping for a 350, it's finding the cheapest transmission that's the problem.

1987 lt 2.8l auto, all original, all stock: 167k miles. engine was rebuilt about 25,000 miles ago (before i even got the car actually). a good job was done. tranny is still perfect, never rebuilt.

eventually i am throwing a 327 i have in my garage into the car. im just gonna wait for the good o'l reliable v6 to take a crapper. might be a while lol

 

My 2.8l has 236000 miles on her,she still runs great.Only thing wrong with her is she has a MAJOR leak in the trunk.I woke up this morning to a kiddy pool in my trunk(not really only about a centimeter of water).

Car is sitting at about 219xxx. 2.8v6 (Swapping for 4.3) and 5 speed.

 

i was mad i thought i fixed so it was the first time since i bought it a few days ago it has been outta the garage during a storm and it leaked.sad day.dont really have anything to do with my mileage though lol.

 

the odometer says 17060 but i am sure it has rolled over because the car is an 88 2.8

my bird had a 2.8 in it when i bought it and until recently it was still in there, but anyhow, it was pushing 195 k.. and was running strong still....

 

Hmmmm, let's see:

1984 Camaro - V6, 5-speed - 397,000 km (then got rear-ended by a bunch of drunks on the highway).

1983 Firebird S/E - V6, 5-speed - 450,000 (then had a rod go through the block. Rebuilt the engine and had another 75,000 km on the car)

1989 Firebird - V6, 5-speed - 450,000 on the engine, had a coolant leak at the front cover, decided to rebuild the engine. I now have an additional 12,000 on the car with the rebuild.

These engines are good for at least 400,000-450,000 km!!! The key is, like the old commercials said, regular oil changes and routine maintenance.

Thats how my 90 was when I got it, it has a 3.1L but its still interesting to look at this thread, the 2.8 and 3.1 are brothers

When I bought my 90 3.1L it had 56,065, and when I first drove it it had 56,063, I bought it Wednesday Novemeber 5th 2008 around 6:30 on Summerset Drive in South Williamsport, PA, haha thats kinda sad that I remember all of that.

It had less than 2 gallons of gas in it when I drove it home, and it made it almost 40 miles on that after sitting for almost 4 years. Not bad.

Now it just rolled over 70,000, and it did right after I hit a deer

When I looked today it had 70,324.6, still going strong, I love it

Not really. My first test drive was in February of 03, don't remember what day exactly. I drove her with 194,600 something on the clock. Bought her March 7th, the day before my 18th birthday, around 3:30 in the afternoon. Had to inflate both front tires and replace the STOP/HAZ and TURN/B/U fuses because of a shorted wire in the steering column for the left front turn signal. Didn't make it home until about 6:30 because my heater control valve got broken and spewed coolant all over the parking lot of the gas station on the way home, and I still have the Alabama plate that was on the car when I bought it (that expired in January of 03) in my garage. She sat for about 3 months because I couldn't afford to put her on the road (and she just needed too much mechanical work). I put her on the road in early June with 194,676 miles on the clock. By September, being jobless, my money ran out, and the engine was dying due to being neglected (you should have seen the pounds of crap that were in the lifter valley!) and missing the front air dam. I had to take her off the road, to re-register her in August of 04 with 195,239.7 miles on her and a newer engine (same mileage as I took her off the road with and the engine blew up). I hit 200K less than 2 months later, not quite remembering the day...

 

Oh I could go on lol, these things just leave such lasting impressions on people, its great.

 

If you maintain it, ie. oil change every 3k, spark plugs every 15-30k, fuel filter and air filter every oil change (3k) and rebuild the top end every 100k and bottom end every 200k, I wouldn't be surprised to see one make it to 500k or more...These engines have perfect balance and will last forever if maintained, although one of their weak spots is definitely crappy gaskets, put metal HGs on and metal lower intake and you're set...

Mine has 116k and needs HGs, and some of the vacuum hoses were in fairly rough shape as well, and the intake is full of carbon buildup, and my lifter valley has crap in it too, but my car also sat for the better part of 11 years before I bought it.

 

mine i thought had 47,000 original miles on it but i looked at it today and it has 45,000 original miles on it, i know there original because it was the wifes car from the time she was 17, and she bought it in 88(her mom and dad bought it for her actualy) and everything is all original.......she parked it when she bought her olds cutlas in 91....(her ex hubby was hounding her for it so he could sell it so she parked it at her dads until now) and now i have to go over it and make sure every thing is still workable...lol...so i guess its a 20 year old newer car......lol
