Re: Help with rev limiter
not for public roads, and its not just the top speed either, when i step on the gas the car bogs a little then goes and i want that gone and i want to be able to take it to a drag strip and not be limited to race my friends 92 rsand stuff like that and to get more power from my car, his 92 is the same thing as mine except for all the emissions and smog stuff and nevada legal, and he got clocked at 142 so it sucks being heldback from what my car can do

check out the stickys in the DIY PROM forum. it's a lot of reading, but eventually you'll find out what it takes.

Re: Help with rev limiter
i have a stock 90 camaro and i dont seem to have a rev limiter.
i can run through the gears and hit 5k in 1-3 without a problem and then i can get the spedo above 105.
maybe mine is broken.

djfrazenrat, you'll need to do some work to that motor before you can reach 140+mph...these cars take a while just reaching 115.

Re: Help with rev limiter
Yeah, all I want to do is get as much power from my car as I can and the most speed, I was thinking about saving and getting a crate motor, somethin really big with a few hundred hp and drag racing it, but thats alot of money which I dont have and other people were telling me to just sell it and not put money into it because ittl never be worth anything than what I paid for it, so im just not sure what to do but theres no way Ill sell it

Re: Help with rev limiter
There's just one problem with the 60* V6. They say that the 3.6 going into the new Camaro is the highest evolution for the engine, and that only makes 304 HP, with direct injection and all sorts of new technologies we can't put on our old cast-iron engines.
Sure, with a ton of money and time, you can either buy or build a turbo kit, but even then, you'll probably get walked on by V8's with similar power adders, seeing as how even the 3.6 has a little over HALF the displacement of most V8's (displacement means torque, and torque gives the engine the ability to get up and go). But, without a turbo or supercharger, most guys are lucky to get over 200 HP without custom-made parts they built themselves or had custom built (BIG $$$). Sure, the six can make power higher in the power band because it has less rotating mass, but it takes a while to get up there. Plus, the V8s have a big advantage over us due to the fact that V8 speed parts are more readily available and have been proven time and time again, where as most of our parts are either well out of production (look up the Trueleo intake) or have been custom built and cost a TON of money, as said before.
Sure, beefing up the 60* is an adventure, but if you're considering going with a crate engine, even with the fact that you'll need a matching transmission as well, you might as well go that way. Especially since you're looking for numbers.
Me, personally? I'm sticking with my 3.1 and possibly getting a 3.4 in the future (unless I can find a cheap 3800). I happen to like getting better gas mileage than my dad's 07 Grand Prix (with a 3800 Series III) and having a car weighing less than 2 tons with me in it, plus the challenge of getting 200 HP is something that gets me going. Especially with the fact that I've put a lot of time (6 years now) and money into making this engine run right and making the car MINE.
:edit: If I'm wrong about the turbo info, someone please correct me. I haven't been following the turbo threads lately, so I don't know what's going on with the various projects (especially the 3.4/3500 hybrid... I heard that was supposed to make some decent numbers)
