Compare to others?

I've had my camaro for about 3 years now. Never driven another 3rd gen camaro so i have nothing to compare it to. Its a 1990 3.1 V6 and the fuel mileage is terrible, It over heats rather often and leaks coolant sometimes like its goin out of style, wear as other times it wont leak anything. the speedometer comes on and off whenever it pleases. All in all i love the car and one day when im not a broke college kid i'd like to restore it with a ramjet 350, new drive train, new rearend, new suspension. anyway I know the car inside and out,

So really Im just wondering what are some commin issues that the 3.1's have and are my complates normal. And also what are your rpms at when your at high way speeds? my likes to hang around 3000, or 3500, (automatic trans) and im wondering if my overdrive is working? and i also have trouble getting it into 5th gear, when im trying to have a little fun.

so any pointers? I just have a lot of questions.

I can't answer all those q's lol.. but it sounds like you nead a MAJOR tune-up man.. I know mine gets "decent" mpg's. around 20 give or take.

But i am pretty sure the automatic trans. is only a four speed.

Nice name btw ;D

Re: Compare to others?

Sounds like yours needs some work. The only time mine leaked, was when the water pump went out.
It's never overheated, even in city driving with a/c on in 100+ degree heat.
MPG I've never tracked, but I did notice it went into the terrible range when my oxygen sensor went out. 200 miles to a tank makes an unhappy wallet. $20 fix, so I'd do the tuneup stuff. Start minor and cheap and see if it solves your problems.
