Brackets for V6 to SB Swap? (A/C, P.S. Pump)
Brackets for V6 to SB Swap? (A/C, P.S. Pump)
Hey Guys!
I'm currently working on droping a 406 into my 1991 RS and I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone that made an after market bracket that would allow me to use my A/C compressor and Power Steering pump from my 3.1L V6??? Any help is great!!!

I'm mostly sure it swaps over. AC is the same, v6 to v8. I've got a v8 ac delete pulley on my 6. I don't think GM would go to the expense of making a different PS for the 6 either.....
edit: oh, you mean brackets, not pulleys..... Probably just hit the junkyards. A SBC bracket is a SBC bracket, for the most part.

I've swaped parts on other small blocks before and yes there all pretty mutch interchangable but I havn't tried swaping anything from a V6 to a V8 other than a 4.3L. Do you think that my compressor and power steering pump from the 3.1 V6 will adapt to fit the small block brackets?

The A/C Compressor and the Power Steering pumps are the same on the 3.1 V6 and the 350 SB but that was only in third generation Camaros... I think only one full sized pick up with a small block used the same and that was for only like a couple of years on an R series truck (R10, R20, etc...) The 400 small block I have came out of a 1975 K10 and it came with no brackets. So yeah...? Advance??? Who's that??? Oh yeah thats that place that sells candy and key chains. There's only one parts store guys, NAPA!

You might want to hit up some yards then, or eBay. I'd try some 3rd gen brackets first, because chances are that the ones for the truck aren't going to work. It's either that, or you'll have to call an aftermarket source that sells things like serpentine belt kits.
I refuse to comment on the NAPA thing... Let's just say I'm never going back there unless I REALLY have to. (Prices WAY too high, ordering/sending the wrong parts, etc, and this wasn't just ONE store)

Thats what I was figuring. Ive done other small block builds but this is my own personal ride and I want my ac and power steering so I was going to see if anyone had tried the same thing before with the V6 to V8 Brackets. I've been looking at the store I work at and I havn't came up with any differences or anyone that knows for sure lol...
HA! By the way I work for NAPA as a parts man and I do everything but agree with you about the whole NAPA thing!!! Our parts are just as competitive as anyone else. Now our electrical parts are more expensive but nobody can hold up to the quality of our Echlin and Rayloc parts!!! But not all stores are as good as others. I am proud to say that we have a very good store and I take pride in taking good care of my customers. We are also an Independent store so we really don't have to put up with all the B.S. from the corporate world either.
