Burning ingnition modules!!!!

I was wondering if any of you have had this problem of the ingnition modues burning out alot. This is the 3rd time I have replaced mines this year and that seems to be unusual to me. I have also replaced the dizzy about 2 mths ago with a new ig module and the ig module is alrady burnt out. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: Burning ingnition modules!!!!

This happened to me on my 84 2.8; I replaced the dizzy cap, rotor, coil, and ignition module. When I did all this I burned through 3 ignition modules in less than a week so I went out to the junkyard and picked up a coil and ignition module and its worked fine ever since. Most of the new coils and modules are crap and half of them don't even work from the factory. That last part is just my . ps: make sure you put penty of dieletric grease on the bottom of it where it toutches the dizzy housing.

He actually means heat sink grease... There needs to be sufficient heat transfer to the base of the dizzy from the module to prevent burn out.

Check your grounds, clean up the dizzy hold-down, check your wires for damage. Any leaking secondary ignition voltage will fight like mad to find ground, even right through the module itself, which will burn it up, of course.

Re: Burning ingnition modules!!!!

I remember reading that someone on here was burning through a lot of ignition modules and it turned out to be his alternator was overcharging and burning them out.
