Check Engine Light issue

Ok I had to replace the starter on my '92 and after we got everything hooked up and I fired it for the first time the check engine light came on and stayed on now i've took it over to firestone to get it checked but the person who dose the computer check wasn't there so the guy at firestone and I thought it may have just been we tripped it up while working on it so he suggested reseting the system by pulling the battery letting it sit and then plugging it back in so I did this after consulting the family member that helped me work on it no change I'm taking it back over to Firestone on tuesday when the person will be there as perhaps it just needs to be reset if its not though do you guys have any ideas what I can do to get this cleared up?

Re: Check Engine Light issue

45 is a rich exhaust condition sensed by the O2 sensor. Possibly the O2 sensor itself.

Yeah its safe, the only foreseable problems that I can think of are hesitation, poor fuel economy, and just general acting up when accelerating. But when you get there you def. need to get a new O2 sensor. Its safe for a while, but after so long a bad O2 sensor can foul out your CAT, so just get it done eventually. I drove mine around with a bad O2 sensor for about 2 weeks before I got it fixed, so yeah it should be safe.

Re: Check Engine Light issue

Anything I can do to help. Good luck with it! And don't worry a new O2 sensor is like 30 bucks. But a new CAT is a bit more, so just be sure to replace it. An easy way to check for a bad O2 sensor is to smell your exhaust. If you smell rotten eggs or sulfur, then thats a tell tale sign of a bad O2 sensor.
