question about rebuilding blocks
I bought a used 2.8 today from tater, cheap. I bought it mainly to get things like the valve covers and plenum off it and have them powdercoated
SO now I have this block over here that supposedly has a knock in it, so I was planning on using it as a core charge someday if I the engine in my car ever wears out, and I'll have another engine ready to go in.
But, part of me is wondering about rebuilding this block myself, but I've never done anything like that before. I have a Camaro service manual an a haynes, but is there a better book for teaching somebody how to rebuild an engine? I'm a decent shadetree mechanic, but I've always stuck to things like starters, breaks, waterpumps, ect... Never anything as involved as rebuilding an engine
So, where do I start

Re: question about rebuilding blocks
after doing some more research, I think it's not worth it for me to rebuild it. I can buy a short block from the best rebuilder in Dallas for $370 and get a warranty. If I choose to get a long block, it goes up to $700..
for the time, labor, and the cost of the tools it would take for me to remn this block, and still not know if I did it right, it's worth it to me to buy it already done
