Re: built v6's!

The information is out there..many times over. Between turbos, N/A, N2O.....

Anyway, here is what I did..minus the tune, which I am currently working through:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/4...its-alive.html

It is fun though....a few weeks back I had a guy come up to me at the local gas station - he had a 1967 LeMans and he said to me, "man you have some cam in that car." Just tonight I had someone ask me if that was a big block in my car

Anyway, as I mentioned in other threads, the best aspect is that I rev about 3-400rpms lower than before the build and gas mileage is still great - after 450,000 km. I'll tune, change injectors and maybe at some point go the hybrid route. For now however, I love the build.

Re: built v6's!

^Other thread you says you want to dyno. Get it on there yet?

Why did you go with 1.52 rr instead of 1.6?

Here is my build....
LINK

Its been put on the back burner. The engine is done...minus 1 hole in the LIM and 1 in the UIM that I still need to plug. I also still have to get 2 bolts out of my frame Ive dulled 5-6 drill bits and barely gotten any metal off...I gave up on them, just waiting for the salt to get off the road so I can get it towed to a shop.

Hello Jensen:

Thanks for the interest. I haven't got it on the dyno yet - that runs $200 per shot here, so, I wanted to wait until I got everything to the best I could. I'm still working through the tune thing (being a newby at it).

On the 1.52 rr vs 1.6, the speed shop (attached to the dyno) said I wouldn't get the valve cover clearance. I found out later that I could use Fiero covers but those are even more rare here than ThirdGens. Since they part for the local racing crowd at Mission Speedway, I had to bend to their more extensive wisdom.

The engine is currently apart, it's getting new cam bearings and a few other small upgrades before it goes into the RS in my sig.. Then it's getting a set of home built longtubes and most likely a custom plenum to make use of the cowl hood.

When all is said and done i'm expecting around 270 WHP (350 @ the crank) through a 4L60E. It put down 275 HP though a 5 speed in the cavalier last year.

Re: built v6's!

Does a work in progress count? :P At least I have both the old heads out now, just need to clean the piston tops off a bit, and the lifter valley, and finish getting out the exhaust. Then with a little more money i can start bolting things on. Also, I've since modified my TB and am going to clean up the heads good and paint them, haven't decided on purple or black yet for the heads...

Re: built v6's!

That depends on a lot of factors, one being whether or not you have another car to drive temporarily, another on whether or not you can do the work yourself, what kind of shape the rest of the motor is in and how many miles. And whether or not your happy with the engine you have or want more power. Money limitations also being a factor.
