This one is actually somewhat nicer than the ones I've seen before... Just through a quick search. Or, you can get one of those like on either a FWD Chrysler or a Rustang that runs down next to the coolant fan (would probably need to make brackets, though.
3rd gen, there is an easy way to deal with the EGR... Just put an aluminum plate under it sealed with RTV... Never have to worry about putting the valve on and off (don't forget to dummy up the wiring harness and the exhaust input tube). I guess it's a good thing my father saved up some cut up pieces of printing plate from his work so long ago

Re: v6 appearance
That thing is actually pretty nice and reasonably priced...as for the EGR, it weighs the same of a brick too, I'd rather remove it once a year, its not that difficult, I've torn down and rebuilt my top end more times than I care to recollect.
But what's all that about some plate? Any chance you could make me a block off plate??
And while we're on the subject, whats up with the last two intake gasket kits I got having the wrong fricking EGR gasket???? Anyone else had that problem? The first time I got one it had the right gasket. 2nd two, not even close.
Who should I try to get ahold of on the boards to maybe try to get something like that going? Personally I'd chip in $20, and even if you don't win, you're contributing to the community, and well, lets face it, all the rough ones running around give us a bad rep, haha, mine certainly does with its halfass rattle can job of primer keeping the rust demons at bay.

Re: v6 appearance
Which plenum are you using? Can you send me a paper or or paperboard template of the mount? I'm not sure how much of the plate is left, but I'm sure there is enough for 2 valves' worth on a 3x00 plenum.

Re: v6 appearance
Also off topic, but whats up with people on ebay not using flat rate boxes....$13 to ship that...vs 5...I swear every item I see is like that, I would actually maybe buy that if it was cheaper shipping...

Re: v6 appearance
I believe it's so that they make money off of the shipping that they would otherwise lose in the transaction. Done that before (somewhat).

Re: v6 appearance
on ebay, you pay a fee based on the amount the item sells for. If you sell an item for a penny, and charge $30 for shipping (I've seen that) then ebay doesn't make much money off of you.
I've reported guys who want to charge $30 shipping to ship a 1 oz emblem

I send people labels a lot to ship things to me to save money and so they don't make extra, I send people stuff at cost too so everyone gets a better deal

Re: v6 appearance
ok, the next step of this has begun. I bought some fiero valve covers, and soon i'm going to be getting a 3.4 long block soon.
when the engine is out of the car, I'm going to clean and paint my engine bay, and I'm also trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the engine. I'm thinking about painting the engine, but I'm not sure of the color yet.
Dark grey car, might go with a red engine with silver for the bolt on parts. The fiero valve covers are red with polished alumimum sections.
opinions?

where do you get that ram air thing going into your throttlebody because i don't like how my air intake goes and bunches up behind the passenger side headlight... not enough airflow in my opinion...

There are some inline sensors before it reaches the TB. You would have to change this too, and your 3.1 computer might not like them

Re: v6 appearance
If you are looking to buy one, I still have the one off of my car, its gutted with practically new K&Ns in it, still has IAT sensor in it(I think I cut the wires, but I left plenty to splice it in), and I think I even have the MAF kicking around somewhere, I don't think I still have that rubber piece though, and that O ring for the MAF if still on it is in rough shape. Anyway, let me know if interested in any of that, I've hung onto the stuff bc I have difficulty throwing away good parts, but I would LOVE to get rid of it. Though it should be said I myself do not offhand know what all is necessary for the swap.

Re: v6 appearance
you don't need the maf for your 3.1. i put one of these intakes on my 3.1 years ago. I used 3" pvc pipe and some rubber couplers for pvc to attach both ends. works great. put you iat sensor in it and lengthen the wires and you're done. the stock plastic piece thats in there comes right out and the intake goes right in its place.

yeah, it's a camaro thing.. I think the firebird hood comes to more of a point, and there isn't room for it.

Way too much work, and I actually like the way this looks better. The flat plenum is boring looking to me
but yes, people have done it, and posted pics on this thread

Re: v6 appearance
just saw it. the pic wasn't loading earlier. but I see what you mean by the plain looking. I think it would look a lot better with some finer sanding or even some paint. I wonder what it looks like mounted.

My GOD. Changing the passenger side Valve cover is a royal PITA...
But I got it done
In the process of putting it back together. Putting Fiero valve covers on for phase one of part 2.

Which one looks better? The Factory cap or the chrome cap? Or should I sand the chrome cap to look like the brushed aluminum look like the valve covers?

Re: v6 appearance
You know if I had a v6 I'd steal this valve cover idea lol. The only thing I'd do differently would be to paint the intake to match the valve covers. That would look sick.

Re: v6 appearance
I have to agree with robertfrank.
I wouldn't paint the intake to be completely red like the Fiero, but paint the "inserts" red and polish the raised ribs, that would look great IMO.

Well I went to all the trouble of sanding and polishing the plenum, I'm sure not to cover it up with paint
maybe I'll do that to the next one.

Started the process of tearing apart the front side of the engine to put those brackets on. I'm also putting on a new water pump and hoses
Cleaning a bunch too. Scraping off 25 years of gunk off some parts of the engine bay.

Looks GREAT for sure man! Keep it up bro! Here is one thing I did to 'brighten' up the engine bay. I replaced the old plastic intake rubber with a polished tube to add a little flair. Got it off eBay. Anyway, looks great and just throwing out one more idea for you. Good Luck!
