I'm at a xroad, need some advice...

Basically, 2.8(to be stroked to a 3.1 eventually if kept) or 3.4 block
I can try to hunt down a 3.4 block, and shell out for dished pistons, and a 3500 crank, and someone to put it all in the car which would probably run up around 1-1.5k, but give me a built lower end to go off for my hybrid, or I can just slap my 3x00 top end parts on the 2.8 and have to figure out tuning for high CR and how to setup the DIS.
So I need some advice on which is more worthwhile, of course I could always go with the 3.4 later down the road when I pull it all back apart for porting and cam, but I want to get it on the road for summer, and another consideration is my expensive HGs I bought for the 2.8.
Yet another option I have is to stroke it to a 3.1. So if anyone has some thoughts on the best option, or has experience doing the swaps and can tell me what kind of differences there is in power potential that would be great.

Not quite what I'm looking for, I don't need info on the swap itself really...

Well, as you already know, at the very least, you're going to have to throw some dished pistons in the engine to run the 3x00 heads. In order to do that, you need to pull the engine and get the oil pan and heads off. So, you might as well throw a 3.1 rotating assembly in there while the engine is out. Or drop in a 3.4 and still have to replace the pistons. The advantage to the 3.4 is that it's already set up for the DIS, while the 2.8 will need a trigger wheel for starting between the crank pulley and the damper.

Either way, if/when you go turbo, you'll need to drop the CR a bit to avoid issues, so you may end up replacing the pistons again or the head gaskets with a 3x00 set that are thicker (or both).

Ok, I'm starting a new thread to get some dissenting opinions on CR, because I honestly think 12.89:1 is doable, but you swear up and down its not, so I'll see what other people are thinking...I don't mean to discredit your opinion or anything, just want some other ones before I go cracking a cylinder head or spending extra time and money for something I don't really need.
