Throwout bearing going bad?

I recently replaced the clutch in my car along with the throwout bearing. Its been working great, but now I'm starting to hear a grinding/rubbing sound when I push in on the clutch. It only seems to happen when I'm shifting up to the next gear and when the rpms on the motor are up. At idle its fine, and if I shift into neutral while its making that noise it tends to stop. Because it doesn't do it all the time I'm not so sure it is the throwout bearing. I'm not sure what brand it is, it came with the clutch kit. What do you guys think?

Re: Throwout bearing going bad?

from what you describe, it sounds like its in the trans. a throwout bearing will make noise any time the clutch is pushed in, being in gear shouldnt have an effect on that. id think something in the trans maybe.

Sounds like something in the trans itself. Have you checked the fluid level? If this has only been happening since you replaced the clutch, it may not be releasing fully.

i agree with 92 rs did you put fluid back in the trans after replacing clutch i believe you have to use 10w-30 motor oil in the trans...please keep us updated!

Re: Throwout bearing going bad?

No, motor oil is not used in any T5 used in a thirdgen. NWC T5's use gear oil, and WC T5's use ATF

Re: Throwout bearing going bad?

No bullets intended. I just didn't want him ruining his trans with the wrong fluid. I have seen 10w30 recommended on here before and always wondered where that came from. I have a Chilton's manual at home which is basically the same thing that I'll have to check tonight. I'm curious now as I"ve never seen engine oil recommended for any transmission.

Re: Throwout bearing going bad?

I'm currently running ATF fluid in my trans. That is what my haynes manual called for and when we pulled the trans. it was definately ATF that was draining out. When I replaced the clutch I did not replace the pilot bushing. The kit I had came with the incorrect pilot bushing, and I decided not to replace it b/c the old one didn't look/feel worn. I now think the bushing may be worn and is allowing the input shaft to vibrate when I let out on the clutch, and when the engine rpm's are up. The sound I'm hearing is a buzzing/rubbing sound and happens mostly when I'm letting out on the clutch, or revving the motor. I can feel a vibration thru the shifter when it is making this sound. Does this sound plausible?
