3.1L problem

hey guys, i come here every now and then for help trying to get my 91 v6 running, and alas i am here again.

the problem is when I turn the key, the car will sputter to a start for a few seconds and then die. pressing the gas will only make it stay running a little longer or have no effect. its been to two mechanics so far, had tons of things replaced (almost everything fuel related), the wires have been checked, its been checked for vacuum leaks, etc., and no luck. we've been thinking maybe its a problem with injectors or something.

last time i was here i was told to "check the green and blue terminals in the fuel injector harness connector for flashing (with a test light) when cranking to confirm that the ecm is grounding both banks of injectors". I did, and this seems fine.

then i was told to "connect a test light between the 2 pink wires in the same connector and ground with the ignition on...the light should light on both" this is backwards for some reason, the light is on when the ignition is off, but off when the ignition is on.

lastly i was told this was to see if the fuses FP/INJ1 and INJ2 were blown, the fuses were checked and they seem fine.

any and all ideas are welcome, and thanks very much in advance!

Re: 3.1L problem

Check the fuel injector fuses in the fuse panel to start... Sounds like the one bank that's got the clean plugs isn't firing and the other bank has been running overly rich to try to compensate for the lean O2S reading.

If the fuses are good, you need to check for power and grounding of the fuel injectors on that side with a test light or DMM (test light preferred, or a noid light on one injector connector).

Also check for a short in the injector harness by probing the 2 terminals in a fuel injector connector with a DMM when disconnected from the engine harness at the front of the engine.

Re: 3.1L problem

Check the ignition coil, or replace it to be sure. I have posted about this like a broken record, but I can't help it because it happens to all of my V6 third gens.

The coil gets rotten and then shorts the spark only sometimes to the coil bracket. I only found it because it was dark outside and I could see the spark jump.

Replace or clean the plugs after doing the coil.

Good luck.
