Stupid little things..need some info

1: I need a good vac wiring diagram, 85 2.8, pictures would also help a lot
2: Need to know the proper way to fill up the coolant from empty
3. Need to see a picture of the PS pump brackets and how they fit together since I can't remember and don't have any good pics.
4. If anyone has mounted or knows how to mount a throttle body from a 3400 I could use some advice since my stock one seems to be a bum rap since the TPS screws are broke and I can't get them out(3400 is bigger anyway) main thing here is how to mount the throttle cable and or bracket. The tbody itself bolts right on, albeit on its side, which means the cable needs to go topside, I will link a picture once I get my plenum back on.

Here is a vacuum diagram. I have an 88 with no AC i Could take some pix of. I also have an 85 GM service manual. Let me know what else you need. As far as the coolant goes, mix your desired ratio, fill the radiator, and run it till the thermostat opens with the cap off. You will start to see it flow and all the air bubbles will start to come out. Keep adding till the rad is full. Then top off the overflow tank.

Re: Stupid little things..need some info

1. I'll PM you tomorrow with a pic of the sticker on my hood.
2. Get a funnel with a small opening at the bottom and remove either the cold start switch or the TPS, put the funnel in the hole and fill the system until you can't fill it any more (WILL be a slow process as this is a small hole). Then fill the radiator. This eliminates the air bubble that likes to collect under the thermostat that is such a PITA to get rid of. And put some extra in the coolant jug just in case.
3. Can't help you here as I don't have v-belts and don't have access to a car with them in one piece.
4. 3400 TB won't work on our older plenums without an adaptor if one can be bought. Check WOT-Tech. The bolt pattern on the 3400 TB is completely backwards from ours and flipping it over doesn't help as the bolts are still on opposing corners. And bolting it on on it's side still leaves the IAC air passage WIDE OPEN. Then you would still have to get a new throttle cable.

Re: Stupid little things..need some info

I've already had it on there, it bolts right on with it on it's side, by IAC passage I'm guessing you mean the vac line, that can be capped or eliminated easily enough...these aren't the things I need help with, I just need a way to setup the cable with it.
Ok so for vac lines, looks like, my PCV valve, connects to intake manifold along with FPR and IAC hoses. I still need to figure out the EGR and evap canister routing...that setup on your picture is a bit different than mine, map sensor being an example, so its hard to figure out what i do and don't need....

It's raining here now, but I can try get some under hood pics tomorrow if you need them, My car is an 88 so it may be different. I will look in the GM manual. There may be a page I can scan and post.

Re: Stupid little things..need some info

I don't know if the 85 FSM will have the vac routing in it... Neither of mine (87 and 92) does. My hood, on the other hand, like I said before, is from an 85, and has the sticker. Besides, 85 supposedly used a "unique" vac line setup.

As for the 3400 TB, look at the back of it and tell me it will still work when compared to your intake plenum. I wasn't talking about the idle air pipe, I was talking about the idle air passage in the TB itself. You'll notice that there is a rectangular cutout at the top of the main air passage, pointing towards the sky, when the TB is held in it's proper position with the control cable attachment on the left (the right when you're looking at the back of the TB). You can't gasket that passage closed, because there is no metal on the upper plenum to press up against the passage.

Re: Stupid little things..need some info

Hadn't noticed that before, but doesn't that need to actually be connected to a vac line that goes to UIM? in which case the solution is simple...

Re: Stupid little things..need some info

The 3.4 throttle body will not bolt up right to any third gen plenum, however if you find a way to get it to bolt up just get a 4th gen throttle cable, it's a direct bolt on, I've got 400 miles on my 4th gen intake plenum throttle cable and throttle body
