Re: cold air intake!?!

Thats stuff's put there for r*cers who have nothing better to do with their cars because they have no mechanichal skill. You wont see any gains from a chrome tube and cheap filter that sucks air out of the engine bay. The stock 3.1 intake is drawing cooler air than you'll get with that other stuff.
Waste of money.

Re: cold air intake!?!

one thing i was thinking about doing is running some kind of dual setup to were the fog lights would be but the only issue with that is water if it starts raining and then i could have the chrome (because i like the looks) and a much more bada$$ more Custom look to the engine bay. got any ideas or seen any threads abotu that?

Re: cold air intake!?!

If you have a camaro, get a dual snorkel, there's no need to make your engine bay look like it's a honda. maybe paint your calipers and drums RED to give it that "bada$$ custom" look XD

Yes, this has been covered many times, and concluded that chrome intakes are a waste of money. Chrome intakes, where muscle ends and rice begins.

Re: cold air intake!?!

There are quite a few threads about gutting, or making a forced/cold air intake. I think the stock Camaro intake with a little imagination is a nice setup.

If he has or can find the optional dual snorkel over-the-radiator intake...

And some of us are stuck with the chrome style intakes. We just know better than to have the filter under the hood. Yes, I know I have posted pics where I have mine under the hood. 2 more parts to the intake duct and that's going to change. I'm back to stock at the moment with my OEM MAF sensor I just replaced a few months back and haven't knocked the plastic elbow off of (for fear of damaging something I more than likely can't replace AGAIN). I plan on running the first couple pieces coming from the filter under and around the battery tray and radiator support on that side.

Re: cold air intake!?!

Mav do you want to remove the elbow from your MAF? I picked up a Firebird one for my Camaro, and used a hack saw and kept cutting a little at a time where the seam is for the elbow and straight part of the MAF meet. went about as far as I dared, put a flat screwdriver in the cut and twisted a little bit and it came off nice and clean.

Re: cold air intake!?!

I've removed the elbow before, from my first one, and had to knock them off of a couple of others after they broke. Since this was a NEW GM MAF, I'm not taking the chance of killing it by knocking the elbow off. Especially since I don't exactly have the money for a new one.

Re: cold air intake!?!

If you want a free, less restrictive warm air intake, do the "Drew mod" (I first saw him post about this).

Remove the air canister, place air filter where it was and put air canister lid on top of filter. Run long bolt thru lid and filter, connect plastic intake tube as normal, drill hole for sensor and screw into tube. Makes a loud vacuum noise & revs easier. Probably crap once the engine warms up though. lol

Re: cold air intake!?!

Easiest way to do it on a v6 is to use the over-the-radiator stock TPI intake.

Second easiest way to do it is to use the stock V6 intake plumbing and drill a hole for a 3" pipe in the bottom of the tray where the stock air filter canister sat and run a pipe down through to a 3" cone filter. Its what I did on mine when I still had the stock 3.1 under the hood.

Someone on here did a mod that used the foglight openings in the nose for an air intake, but I can't remember who it was at the moment. He had a nice thread going detailing the build.

Re: cold air intake!?!

... All of which still depends on whether your car is a Camaro or Bird. Birds can't use the TPI intake due to hood clearance, which is why we all have the crazy ducting to the pass side battery tray no matter the year.
