engine kit interchange
engine kit interchange
i just ran the number off of the box that came with my car....the cam and lifter that where put into it as well as many gaskets and such...the engine kit is a sealed power 405-6011A and as far as i can tell it was for a 2.8 Fiero...would that make any difference in lift in the cam and such? all that the guy used out of the kit was the cam and lifters and the gaskets from the head up...since i'm having a problem getting it running i was wondering if it could be the wrong parts he put in...the cam part number is sealed power CS-1539. if anyone has any other questions please ask.

Re: engine kit interchange
Unless he had no idea what he was doing its doubtful, was it a stock replacement cam, or increased lift/duration? As far as interchangeability between the engines they are pretty much identical.
Re: engine kit interchange
i tore it down to the cam and i'm looking at the lobes on the inside...behind the cam sprocket. what valve or lifter should the very first lobe be pushing...at tdc like the haynes manual says i can see the exhaust lifter for the no 1 piston it's on the 2nd lobe...so what is the first lobe and maybe it didn't even come from that kit or it's just somehow installed wrong...idk i'm pulling my hair out on this car. i just want it running.

Re: engine kit interchange
First lobe would be for the mechanical fuel pump none of us with post-85 cars have. Fiero cam is the same as our cam (H.O. cam). Just make sure to line up the timing marks on the cam and crank sprockets.
Re: engine kit interchange
so it makes no difference that that cam is for a carbed engine. and it should be okay? i can see the cam and i notice that with everything lined up just like haynes says that 4th plug is firing but no1 which should be a tdc on exhaust i believe. however the lifter is still some ways from the tip top of the lobe.

Re: engine kit interchange
It's not for a carbed engine... Fieros were MFI just as ours are. Which is why a lot of the parts are so popular to interchange on our engines.
If the cam is on #1 TDC, the #1 valves should be closed and the #4 intake valve opening (exhaust closing), I do believe. And the reverse for #4 on TDC. If the lifter isn't on the top of the exhaust lobe, the lobe should be past max opening and actually on the receding side, closing the valve, as the valve should be closing or almost closed before the intake valve opens.
