Re: Questions about my car
1. 15 or 15.5...don't remember exactly
2.in good shape, should be about 15 city, probably
3.120-125 if you've got a long straight road...don't be stupid, though
4. not much hp. if its an auto, tranny might be slipping and it'll have a 3.23 rear gear (3.42 if stick). if all is in good shape, it should do it, though.

Re: Questions about my car
1. agreed 15, or 15.5 gals
2.my 88 2.8v6 was getting around 21mpg with a aftermarket exhaust headers, and custom filter and inlet setup, and 3.42's
3. agreed on speed, never was able to go that fast though, now i have a tpi 350, different story
4. i think those had something like 145 hp and 165 tq, not a heck of alot, but they can still be fun cars, i know mine was. A 5speed really is better, because you can control rpms of the 2.8 for better power. You can always go the tpi route later if youre after power, thats what i did.

Re: Questions about my car
1. Fuel capacity apparely varies by what it is you want to read... I've seen between 15.5 and 17.5 gallons... I figure that mine takes 12 gallons when it's down to a 1/4 tank, so it's somewhere in there.
2. Couldn't tell you. I'm glad my 2.8 blew up because it was a. dying, and b. getting about 5 MPG no matter what I replaced on it.
3. Somewhat faster than the 85 MPH gauge, if you can get it going that fast even.
4. Probably needs a serious tune up, with serious checking of the transmission for burned fluid with metal flakes in the pan. My not well running 3.1 (low compression in 2 cylinders, bad injectors, running somewhat rich, bad trans after a while), which was probably weaker than a good running 2.8 for quite a while, could light up the one rear at a full stop with the brakes applied (and yes, the drums were adjusted properly) and the auto trans.
:edit: 2.8 is 135/160, according to GM.

Re: Questions about my car
"They" said it was in great running order? Wow, pretty good for a 22-year-old car! Seriously though what did "they" do? Did they replace anything (and what did they replace)?
4. Regarding the rear gear- all 2.8 85-89 received 3.42 rear gears, no matter which transmission. In 1990, that changed- 3.1/auto = 3.23, 3.1/stick=3.42. So the 1988 2.8 in question will have a 3.42/open rear.
