engine harness help

Iv been on the hunt for a new 2.8 engine harness since mines alittle cut up by the PO and its missing a few connections like the windsheild wiper connections. Well i found one off an 85 camaro 2.8 auto with v belts, but this guy also has one off an 87 2.8 with a serpintine belt setup and its a manual, which is better or can i even use either one? do i NEED an 86 harness?

Re: engine harness help

Doesn't have to be an 86 far as I know, but if you have an automatic you cannot use the manual one because it won't have a connector for torque converter lockup, less you don't mind losing that. Otherwise, check that the 2.8 has the same stuff, ie. vacuum operated EGR valve, same type of throttle body and TPS, IAC sensors etc., but honestly unless the one you have is really bad I would just patch it up...wiring harnesses are a PITA, especially when nothing is hooked up.

What connections are you missing? I have what amounts to a whole harness that's cut up, including the older wiper motor wiring (also have the motor).

Don't use butt connectors and do it half-baked. Get some heat shrink tubing and a soldering iron and do it right so you don't have to do it again later.

And, if you can find it, there's heat shrink out there with sealant inside, generally used for Ford repairs (one of very few things they got right). Use that if you can.

Re: engine harness help

Yes, it keeps the wiring from scuffing and other damage, even though it seems almost worthless, especially if the loom (the tubing) is falling apart.
