91 firebird runs rough, smell gas
Hey, im new to this site but i have read some posts from people who have had the same problem as me. my mom lives in Ohio and she gave me her car when i arrived there she told me that it died about 3 months ago, she had plugs put in it and it ran for another month, she put plugs in again and it ran for a week and a half, then she just parked it. I put a HEI module, coil, cap, rotor, and plug wires on and it started right up and ran great for 2 or 3 days then it dies. Pulled the plugs and they were soaked with gas so i cleaned them and drove it back to the house. Put a temp. sensor and a MAP sensor on and ran great for a week then it died again. I it will run for bout 5 to 10 minutes then it will die. If you idle it up it will die like it has no power at all. I could really use some help, any suggestions would greatly be apprieciated.

Just had the same problem since may, mine's a 91 3.1L V6 too, check the fuel injectors. Probably why you're smelling the gas, it's probably dumping gas because an injector is bad.

When there is a question of leaky injectors we recommend pulling the plugs...if you
have wet cylinders you have leaky injectors, but you can also check the fuel pressure regulator and the diaphragm.

If you're pulling enough gas in the cylinders to foul out all 6 plugs, my guess would be that the FPR diaphragm is shot and it's shooting gas right into the intake. Pull the intake bellows and open the throttle plate. If there's gas pooled behind the plate, the FPR is toast. You can get a replacement FPR diaphragm, but you need a security T10 torx to remove the screws on the cover.
