Were is the best place to mount a MSD 6AL?

I recently perchased a msd 6al ignition box for my 88 camaro but i soon found that there is no flat areas under the hood to realy mount it properly with out making a bracket and mount it up near one of the hood hinges on either side of the car.
I think may try mount it in side the car under the passenger side dash area below the hvac box and then run the wiring thru a gromet on the fire wall.

Any other suggestions?

I usually see them on the firewall, either by the AC junk, or the master cylinder. Well, in pics anyway. Haven't seen one in a 3rd gen in person to see how it mounted.....

Best place imo, is on the firewall behind the intake manifold, or you could put one on top of a valve cover, 3.4s have the coilpacks mounted on a bracket on the PS pump, I'm probably just going to keep stock location when I set it up for DIS.

Re: Were is the best place to mount a MSD 6AL?

I couldn't find a place for my 6AL either, so I put it where my coolant overflow tank was. My '86 Firebird had the stock coolant tank on the passenger side- I made a bracket out of 1/16 steel plate to go in that spot and put the MSD box there. Then I used an aftermarket coolant tank (JC Whitney) and mounted it next to the windshield washer reservoir (my Firebird = on driver's side).

The 6AL box looks great in that location- and stays pretty cool too- but the aftermarket coolant tank looks horrible; I still haven't found a "clean" way to mount that second tank, hopefully I will some day. I may get a Camaro overflow can (that goes where my windshield washer tank is, on driver's side), and change my wipers/washers to use an old school wiper fluid bag that I could hang under the battery, or something... I have one from an old Dodge (not sure what model) that I've been using as garage decoration, maybe I'll put it into service

Anyway you might be able to move something similar on your car to put your MSD in a good spot.

Re: Were is the best place to mount a MSD 6AL?

Thank you for the Suggestions, but i think i will try to mount it in side the car under the passenger side dash to keep it out of sight and away from most of the heat from the engine. One of my goals with this car is to make it apeer as stock and white trash looking as posable. So when when i whoop up on honda civics it will hurt their owners egos a little just a little more.

Imo I wouldn't tear apart my interior to do it, plus, it will be a pain in the *** to get to everytime you need to. Besides, that would still be apparent to anyone seeing your engine bay, anyone that knows jack **** about cars will know that you have DIS if your spark plug wires are running through the firewall with no dizzy in sight. But if you want to, go for it, everyone has their own preferences.

A 6al isn't a coil or coil packs. its ignition control. All of the plug wires will be under the hood, in stock location. Biggest advantage to a 6al box over completely stock stuff is that you have the ability to run a 2 step rev limiter. that being said, I'll trade my 6a box for it! I mounted mine flat where the stock air box was, right next to the charcoal canister.

Re: Were is the best place to mount a MSD 6AL?

I have a 6AL, and I know not everyone has no A/C, but I made this bracket to fit over my heater box. Real clean and still affords plenty of space to the engine bay. It took a little time and welding, but it turned out looking pretty good.
