Looking to replace the carb on my engine.. I have seen the two piece edelbrock intake for the 4 barrel. Unfortunately for me that route seems to be quite pricey lol. So I bassically hate the old rochester that is currently on my engine. What I am curious is what are some cheap reliable carbs that are a direct bolt up to the manifold. Or at least cheap with an available adapter plate. Some key things I am looking for are

1) manual choke if possible
2) reliable (enough I understand its a carb)
3) Small power Increase
4) Easy to work with
5) A stand alone air cleaner for it

There is a weber conversion kit but it is still a 2 bbl carb. It is also still quite pricey though. After that to stay on the cheaper end you may need to find a bigger cfm 2 bbl rochester. One from a 6 cyl 250 ci engine will fit but may be a match to what you have. I have not gotten enough info to say what is what but there is another Rochester carb made that looks to bolt the same but hase equal size throttle plates front and rear. I haven't been able to pin down the engine yet and it could still not bolt up. I have found out this much because am thinking about swapping to carb to get my v6 running.

 

the weber is still definitely cheaper than going the custom intake manifold route. all together the way I was thinking I would have to go would of been around 600 dollars. I also work at advance auto parts so if I can get it through there I can get my 20% discount. Is wk491 the correct part number for the kit?

mainly the fact that no one can tell me what is wrong with it lol. The engine is actually in a gmc s15 1984. Whats going on is I let her warm up and in park and neutral it revs and idles fine. When I put it into gear and get about say 3k rpm she dies. I have replaced the fuel pump checked for vacuum leaks the works. Only thing left is the carb witch is rebuilt and has been cleaned very well. I am at all a loss with it so I am thinking of just going with the weber considering I know them better plus I know they are reliable. I had no Idea they had one for this engine or I would have done it sooner. Unless someone here has an idea what the hell is wrong I am at a loss lol. So basically to answer your question nor i or know one I know is familiar with the carb.

 

Any reason for staying carb? A complete MPFI setup could be found for under $200 I'd imagine.... More power, reliability, and easily modified later....

 

I plan on going mpfi eventually I even have the whole set up actually. I simply just don't have the time nor have I seen a walk through on how to swap over. The engine I am working on is in my truck and my camaro actually has the 2.8 mpfi variant.

 

I bought a rebuilt e2se from summit and had this problem, I ended up replacing the mixture control seleniod with the one from my old carb, then took the old carb and rebuilt it and I am keeping the summit one as a spare. These carbs are simple to work on and just take some tuning to get them right. Now I am getting 21mpg mixed and 29highway. I know that fuel injection is about the same but I'd stick with carb just to keep things simple.
