hello all, my check engine light comes on after iv been driving the car for about 5-10 minutes, all my gauges seem fine, besides my temp gauge it still doesnt work because i havent put in a new temp sending unit yet but i stil have hot air so i know im not over heating, after i turn the car off and restart it its gone till i start driving again, but after i restart it comes back soon like around 2-3 minutes, so im lost on whats causing this, if anyone can add some input i would appericiate it

 

Check your codes.

 

i have..can i get them while the cars running?

 

sounds like one of your EGR system vacuum hoses has broken or come loose... look really really closely at every hose

codes are checked with the car off, but the key is in the on position

 

when the cars off i get no codes, only 12 which is normal, will that vacum hurt anything to keep it driving till spring?

 

when it happened to mine it seemed to drive normally, but open vacuums should not be ignored. Do yourself a favor at at least get under the hood with patience and a good flashlight and looks at everything... be patient, you'll find it

 

wheres the egr at? its near the back of the engine right? pasenger side?

 

passenger side. do a search for it on autozone.com to see what it looks like

don't check jsut the hoses running right to it. there are a ton of hoses on both sides of the engine that all draw a vacuum

not a great pic, but it's that little black disc between the plenum and the dryer

 

i cant see it mark, can you circle it please.

 

 

all those vac lines are on, iv checked those.

 

I still think you have one somewhere that's cracked...

I'll look in the troubleshooting guide in my service manual. Were you at highway speeds when the light first came on?

 

bout 30, i was only in town, and its a small town at that

 

I can't seem to find the section i'm looking for, but I do know that another thing that can cause the ECM to not store a code is a problem with the fuel filter. When it happened to me I felt a little dip in power and the light flashed

 

i dont feel a dip in power, i mean it shifts alil late into second but thats it, but im also a new driver in a new car so i might not notice it
