3.1 Firebird: Header Question!
Hey did your headers have a provision for the EGR valve? I'm not sure if your engine's the same as mine exhaust-wise, but my EGR is mounted on my passenger-side exhaust manifold.
And if there's no hole for it, what did you do?
Also did the headers have holes for the AIR pump? If they did I'd need to close them up.

Tom, yes the headers have an EGR provision, and it worked on my 3.1. The EGR on my car is on the passenger side manifold..........it is connected to the manifold by a cast iron pipe about 5 inches long with two bolts holding it on the manifold. The cool thing is that after I bolted the EGR on the headers, the bendable pipe that runs from the EGR to the plenum actually hooked into the plenum like it was meant to be that way without modifying it.
They didnt have an air pump fitting though, I was told to just run a hose from the air pump and plug it into the catalytic converter tube. The headers have two O2 sensor fittings, on the number 5(farthest cylinder on pass side) and 6(farthest cylinder on drivers side) cylinder pipes, so I just plugged the number six pipe fitting with the old O2 sensor and put a new O2 sensor in the number 5 Cyliner O2 provision. And the cool thing about this was I didnt even have to extend the O2 sensor wire to fit up to the O2 sensor because it was already long enough.
So basically you have to worry about bending the pipes, custom y-pipe, air pump to cat hose, and getting some 8 mm regular pitch threaded bolts and washers to bolt the headers on with. Lots of work, but well worth it because the car is so much more fun to drive now with the nice bump in power.

Hey, sweet! I don't have an AIR pump anyway so I don't have to worry about plugging holes now. And that's great about the EGR. So you plugged the "extra" oxy sensor hole with your old one, and left the old one unhooked?

Actually I'm thinking of MIG welding my own y-pipe; we'll see how that works when it happens.
As to bending the header pipes, well, unless I buy an oxy-acetelyne welder, I'll either try a hammer method, or have to bring it somewhere.
