air fuel mix problems?????????????

PLEASE HELP!!! IM HAVING SOME CRAZY AIR/FUEL PROBLEMS. FIRST I HAVE AN 89 2.8L RS CAMARO. THERE ARE 4 THINGS THAT CONTROL THIS AND THEY ARE, TPS, MAS AIR FLOW, COOLANT TEMP SENSOR, AND O2 SENSOR. I HAVE REPLACED ALL AND ADJUSTED WHAT NEEDED IT. NO CODES RELATING TO COOLANT TEMP SENSOR ANY LONGER, NO CODES RELATING TO TPS, EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE I WILL GET MAS AIR FLOW/VACCUUM PROBLEMS(34 I THINK) AND RICH/LEAN EXHAUST(45 I THINK). WHEN I START THE CAR SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PUSH THE PEDDLE TO THE FLOOR, SOMETIMES NOT. MY GARAGE WALL HAS BLACK STUFF THAT SPITTS OUT THE TAIL PIPES ON IT. NO SMOKE, BUT I CAN SMELL THE FUEL. AND AS YOU GUESSED IT RUNS BUT BOOGS BAD AND HAS NO POWER AT ALL. IM STUMPED PLEASE HELP!!

Just a suggestion but.....it very well could be a clogged cat. That is pretty much how my RS acted before I rammed a tire iron inside of the cat.Busted all of the honey comb looking crap out of my cat.

Also check your IAT i know that tells the engine how warm or cold the air is and adjusts how much fuel goes in.

What year is the car? If you're getting codes 34 and 45, there's a problem with those circuits, and they should be fixed.

it is an 89 rs 2.8liter. the codes that i am getting dont relate to air/fuel problems that im having that i know. an o2 sensor wont change it as much as it is off, neither the egr valve. please help with the IAT sensor, i have no idea what that is. the coolant temp sensor is what tells the computer if it is a hot or cold motor, that is what i understand. please shed some light on this subject. also if it makes a difference, when i floor the pedal it boggs real bad. if you left off the pedal about half way it runs??????????

hmmmmm, My grandpas 305 TBI was doing the exact same thing. It was the fuel pump, check it out and make sure it working right. When you turn the key on you should hear a whine for about a second comeing from the fuel pump, if you dont hear this be suspicious. You could also disconnect the fuel filter lines then turn the key to the on position, fuel should come pouring out if the pump is working right.

Uh, a mass air flow sensor code (34) has a LOT to do with the air/fuel mix.

The IAT sensor is on 93-up f-bodies. 82-92 f-bodies refer to it as a MAT sensor, Manifold Air Temperature, and it reads the temp of your intake air. It's the only two-wire sensor sticking out of your airbox.

guys thank you for the info, it is much appreciated. the reference info that i have shows a code 34 as maf or vaccum problems?? maybe my info is bad. ill keep looking into it. im just getting real tired of fighting it. i may have to break down and spend some money at a mechanic. not looking forward to it. i have got to check fuel filter/pump/lines/etc. and work from there.

Depends on the year of car. If it's 85-89, 34 is MAF, which measures airflow directly. 90-92, it's MAP, which measures airflow due to engine vacuum. I'd say to fix the code first and then look for other problems.

Good luck! Let us know what you find out!
