another new engine question.
well, i got the new motor in, and tonight, i took a look at the smoke that was coming out. Well, i noticed that besides the smoke coming off the exaust pipe, there was also some smoke coming off of the block, when i removed the oil fill cap, so i could look at the springs. I was curious, just how much oil is normally left in on the heads, where you can see it. Because there wasn't much left in mine, in fact, it was just a little bit of residue. And a tiny bit of smoke coming out. The last time i saw that, my engine died.

I think the oil drains back from the heads into the block pretty quickly, maybe 30 seconds? I've never seen oil sitting up there under the fill cap.
Maybe the smoke is just residue burning off the pipes?
I did an oil change last night, and "missed" the funnel- poured 1/4 quart of oil right onto the damn valve cover.
I still smell burning oil.
