got my car back, but...
well, it drove home and it seemed o.k., but then i noticed white smoke coming from under the hood. (i had a new motor put in) and I stopped and took a look at it, it was coming from the bottom of the block, back towards the tranny. Now, i knew my tranny had a leak at the pan, but i had never noticed smoke before. So i called the guy, and he said he thinks it's tranny fluid spilling over to the exaust pipes, so when i checked the pipes, i noticed that there is liquid hitting them and burning off and then the resedue is hitting the ground. So, there's no actual color to the stuff on the ground,my question is, do new engine's leak oil until they're completely sealed up? and if not, how expensive is it to fix the tranny pan gasket, and tranny pan?

No, no new engine should ever leak for a while until it runs in......
there should be NO oil leaks at all in a new motor. Period.
The trans is usually just a pan gasket, not the pan. (unless its bent) We charge about $150.00 to do a trans service.

thanx engineboy. I'll take it to the shop after school tomarrow, and then find out what they say. Then i'll probably take it back to the engine guys if it turns out to be the motor.

well, now i've got new info. I went ahead and checked where the leak was coming from. It's dripping pretty quick, but only when the engine is on. When it's off there's no drip. Also it's not coming from the tranny, it's at the forepart of the Oil Pan, dripping from the crossmember, and then hitting my exaust pipe, right next to they y-pipe. So, looks like the mechanics screwed up, and they'll be looking at it tomarrow, and hopefuly will start fixing it. I also collected some of the liquid, while the engine was cool so it didn't burn off and just leave residue, turns out that it must be oil burning off. But there's still a question, when they put in the new motor they didn't add a new distributor. and i've heard they leak sometimes, so should the guys have noticed that the o-ring around the bottom had gone bad when he went to change it out, and also if the distritbutor is leaking, where does the drip come from, and how much drips at a time?
