Need info on an engine.

What are all the years & models that the GM 3.8L turbo was made. Right now i really would like another car or just the engine, as another play toy. Also is there anyway that I could fit this engine in my car?

all depends on your luck.. i know of a few sitting in nearby yards, some places they're just really rare.. i believe the only ones that would fit in our cars would be out of a mid to late 80's regal t type or grand national.. or even a turbo TA, but if i find you heist one from a TTA and leave the TTA sit in the yard i would have to hurt you. :P

Garmer,

If you want to know the Fbody specs for that motor, here goes....

1) Only offered on '89 20th anniversary TTAs
2) Way underrated at 250hp and 350 ft/lbs of torque
3) 0-60 in 5.2 sec, 1/4 mile in under 14 sec bone stock.

If you want the full road test stats, my site (www.geocities.com/jee89) has all the stats on the TTA

you can run a GN in an f-body with out air conditon or if you want air condion you need later model FWD3.8 heads. there is plenty of info on this just do some research. if the info has been erased on this board since the downtime check out www.3rdgen.org

If I remeber correctly, Pontiac went with 3.3 heads, not 3.8s. I'll check my Hot Rod article on the car, but I believe they had to use the 3.3 heads because they were smaller overall.

Jason, I really meant more about GN & Regals. The main reason is, I think that they were total sleepiers. I saw somewhere it said that a STCK 3.8 Turbo from an 86 GN, did the 0-60 faster than Corvette, Rustang, Ferriri, European cars, etc.! Could that really be true, cause that would be one bad *** V6!

Garmer,

You shoulda told me you were after GN stats

Yes, in '86 and '87 the GN was the fastest car made from 0-60, at 6 sec flat. At this point, Corvette L98s were around 6.5 sec.

The engine was rated between 230 and 240hp...I'd have to check on the exact #.

So yeah, they were the ultimate sleeper...they weren't as dominant in the 1/4 though because they have the aerodynamics of a brick A Corvette, I believe, would run a better 1/4. I could very well be wrong though!

The Turbo 3.8s were available from 84-87 in Grand Nationals and T-Types. The 1984 was rated at 200 HP, 1986 - 235HP, 1987 - 245HP and the GNX 275 HP, IIRC. All grossly underrated.

I was a big follwer of the GNs and T-Types in the mid 80s and almost bought a 1987 GN in 1990. But, I was not impressed with the looks of the dash. I thought it belonged in a taxi. And then I saw the 1991 GTA in the showroom, drove it, thought it felt torquier than the GN, preferred the dash (the part I see when I drive) and wrote a cheque and drove it away.

No regrets. I still prefer the looks of my GTA (inside and out). Oh yeah, I've come across a couple of stock GNs...and I beat them.

I should add, the real beauty of a Buick Turbo is the EASE of modifying it to generate big HP. Adjust the waste gate, develop more boost and good-bye competition.

That is the part I regret about NOT buying the Grand National instead of my GTA.

Jason, they used 3.3 heads? I thought Hot Rod said they needed special heads made. Of course that was a while ago that I read that!

heads are from fwd unit to clear hood line. Other parts u need will be trans brace and m200 transmission your best bet is to just by a Grand national I had two of them new in 1987 they are fast!(sold one in 1993 and one is in storage since new 4700 miles) Was looking to get a third one when i found tta for sale... sounds just like GN, shifts like GN hauls a** like GN but handles better in Transam body. livin large lovin life

The guy down the street from me has a GN, and not to mention a nice juiced El Cammy. That GN is fast, sometimes he will speed down the street after a night at the track with his friend (who has a Ford Fairmont or something like that). Man, I tell you what, that GN hauls some major a$$, and I love that high pitched wail of that V6. It is so awesome. If he didn't park it in his garage, I would go grab that engine in the night................
