I'm looking for an RS...I have some questions.
I've NEVER been a *****,or mustang guy,but I have had an RS. It was a 1989 RS,with the 2.8 engine, but it was fairly quick from a few upgrades I got for it.
Anyhow,I was only 16 at the time, and insurance was $185 a month (didnt know that full coverage wasnt a neccesity, damn insurance rip off),plus the $200 a month I was paying a parents for it.
Well, where I worked decided to cut my hours, and since I had 3 more months to go before I upgraded my learners license to a full license,I couldnt get another job and couldnt pay my expenses. My parents sold the car. what REALLLLLLY pissed me off was that 1 week later I got my hours back at work and I could have paid for it. **** me off.
I loved that car. Now its a year and a half later,I have a better job,still havnt gotten a car,but I'm saving for a nice 89 or '90 RS.
I have a few questions though...
What can I expect to pay for an '89 or '90 RS that has 75-100,000 miles on it?
I love to tinker with cars, and I dont abuse them,so you think the Chevy Camaro is tough enough and worth buying if I find one for the right price but if it has 100k miles on it?
Milage doesnt honestly bother me,because I would keep it running well, and I'm not a moron peeling out at every light.
Should I get automatic or stick? Is there any performance differences? I think I would rather automatic.
Could I get a Camaro thats an '89 or '90 for around $2500 bucks? I wouldnt mind fixing it up if it had minor problems,as I'm great with electrical stuff, and I basically rewired a good part of my old Camaro under it's dash.
I miss my old Camaro sooo much. I was like in love with it. I washed it every 2 days and waxed every 2 weeks.
I love the Chevy Camaro! I just miss my old one so much and I want another one.

Here is an option, I have seen many 3.4 V6 4th gen camaros around here in Orlando Florida very cheap with 60-80,000 on them.. You get a larger engine, newer car, more mods avaible, just an idea..
here is a pic of my 89 rs i got a little over a year ago for $3k. it was all stock when i got it with a 2.8 and had 90k miles on it at the time.
and here is my 91 rs convertible that i just bought off ebay last month for $2k. a 305 with 150k miles on it.
the cars are out there, you just have to look. i would look into ebay if i were you though.

Maybe, mine is almost mint and it cost me 5 grand. But I would do it again if I had to. It was well worth it.
P.S.

rs'er, depending on where your at and where you look, im sure you could find something nice in your price range.. i picked up my 87 iroc-z for 3 grand, with 85k on the clock.. granted it was a theft recovery and needed a new windsheild and steering column.. all said and done, paid about 3500... camaro 22, where you at in pittsburgh.. that 2nd pic, that gas station looks familier...
hey scoob, that pic was the pic that was on ebay with the gas station. it was taken in minisota, haven't taken any pics of the convertible yet myself. but anyway, i'm in the south side. you've helped me out a few times in the past too, what part are you from?
I hope I can. The RS in that pic I posted I got for $1500!!! It even had a K&N,and monro sensitrac struts. I just bought from a friend and got a deal. I was just wondering if that was a one in a million,or if I can actually find something else in that range

like the guys said, it'll all depend on where you look, and what these cars are going for in your area. Here in St. Louis a nice looking camaro might run you about 3k, on the other hand i wouldn't sell my firebird for less than 5k, one owner, nice paint, beautiful car. so it depends, but here in the Lou, you can go out into the country and normally pick up nice looking cars for nearly nothing. Or at least the mid thousands. You should check away from some of your larger cities.

I found one helluva deal about 2 months ago. A teal '92 RS 305, 89k miles, with t-tops, all power and factory 16s for $3,900.
It was in typical shape though...the front spoiler was scuffed, drivers seat had a tear in the side bolster, and the carpet had seen better days. But it ran great, and didn't appear to be beat. If my car didn't have such sentimental value (and didn't look like it just came off the showroom floor, in all original condition), I'd have grabbed it.
For $2,500 it shouldn't be too hard to find a 90-100k mile V6 RS.

I just found out that 2 of my friends have dealers permits! they have offered for me to come with them to auctions...Is this advised? I know I can find a deal there, but am I more likely to find a junker than something I want to drive to work and cruise with?

I say to go; you never know what you'll find. I believe a junker will sell for a junker price; nobody that goes to these auctions is interested in crap.

Even though I see RS's in Auto Trader magazines around here for $1250,I dont think I would ever go that direction. My friend told me that $1250 gos a long way at an auction, especially if not many people bid on a car,and that I stand a good chance of getting something nice.
Now I'm hyped!
