What Next?

Ok, here's what I have comin up on my agenda (waiting for the mail to come). Dynomax Catback, Jet Stage 2 Chip, Accel Cap/Rotor, Accel Coil, Accel 8.8MM Plug Wires, AC Delco RapidFire Plugs. My question is...what next? I already have the K&N, so that's not a biggie...but I need to do some more to my car. OH, and by the way...I beat a Mustang tonight...BEFORE my mods...

Also, I'd like something relatively easy....in other words..no cam or head work or anything like that...at least for now.

There really aren't too many minor bolt-ons left: underdrive pullies and cold-air is about it.

What is left is the "good stuff" that do develop power: headers, higher stall TC, cam, heads, porting your intake and learing to burn your own custom PROM.

Fabricating a supercharger to work on your car would be an interesting project.

Yah, I was thinking about adding underdrive pulleys as soon as I get enough money together again. I just dumped all my cash on the stuff mentioned above. How much would I feel the difference with the cold-air? I've been thinking about doing it, but no one has put up any pics and I'm more of a visual person when it comes to cars than a "Read This and Do It" type guy.

I know you don't want to tackle the cam (or heads), but cams are not really that expensive...just a bit of work to do it.

But these "bolt-ons" really don't deliver any SOTP performance; nothing compared to cams and heads. I could understand your aversion to heads as they do get pricey but cams do give some real SOTP feeling. Read Jan '01 Car Craft on Cam & Head performance.

It was for a 383 but it does show the effect of adding sm heads/sm cam, sm heads/lg cam, lg heads/sm cam and lg heads/lg cam. This article follows my preference that if you HAD the money, heads are where to start...but if cost is a problem, go with a cam. I think that if you added up all the cost of what you've done, you could have had better heads already and be further ahead (sorry for the pun).

Also, if you are still want more "bolt-ons" consider a higher ratio roller rocker arms. I am not that familiar with the parts for the 60* V6, but I am sure there are higher ratio rocker arms for them. Call it a poor/lazy man's way of getting a larger cam.

Make sure you check the geometry though. And if your engine has a fair amount of miles you may wish to consider changing the valve springs.

There's also transmission mods available. You can put in a shift kit yourself (B&M or Transgo, I have the B&M). You can put in the GM 3-4 WOT upshift valve, or the B&M 4-3 kickdown valve (mine). The GM one makes the trans complete an upshift when you've got the car floored. The B&M one lets you keep the car (almost) floored when you're already in 4th.

You can add an external tranny cooler, and an external trans filter. The external one doesn't replace your internal one; it just adds another place to filter the fluid. I have both; the remote filter was a pain to find a spot for! (Took me a few days, and I had to make a bracket.)

You can also add an aftermarket shifter, such as the B&M Megashifter (what I have) or the Hurst dual-gate. Both of these are made for the 82-92 f-body center consoles. Of course, a shifter wouldn't improve the speed of your car-- but they're fun & look sharp!

While you're under there, you might also want to add the Energy Suspension polyurethane trans mount and torque arm bushing... both are about $25 each. I have both; the torque arm bushing firmed the car up nicely on turns.

[edit] Figured I'd tell you what I had

I ordered the throttle kickdown kit from Summit when I ordered my exhaust. I'm just waiting to get some money to have it installed, I'm not too keen on messing with my transmission myself, especially since it's so low. I worked on my Blazer all the time, but that was much more clearance.
