Damn Temp Switch

Ok, so I did my tuneup, and maybe I broke a vacuum line or somethin, you tell me. Now I got in my car tonight, turned the heater on, and tried movin the temp **** to the red dark side for hot, but it was hard as hell to move, and wouldnt' move. Any suggestions?

Hmm.. On mine the air dam that the switch operates is entirely mechanical.. It could be stuck open, but something like this should have had a noticable onset prior to it going dead.. Only way to really check is open the airflow box to gain access to the air dam.. and I warn you in advance, it's a b*tch to get back on there correctly..

TS, same on mine... but then again, we both have '86 cars. I don't know if later models got a vaccum line for the heater door; I wouldn't -think- so... I know 87-up got that stupid vacuum-operated heater diverter valve- but that controls coolant into the heater core; not the climate door.

Ovrclck, this may sound dumb, but once I had the same problem with my A/C after messing with the radio. One of the wires in the back of it got in the way of the A/C control box somehow. However, none of the ***** worked well, not just the temp ****.

I don't know if this will help you or not.

Air comes out, and the thing will switch to heater and start blowing at the feet. The problem is with the lever below the one that controls AC, Defrost, Heater, Etc. It's the one that on the left has blue for cold, and red for hot on the right. It will move if I REALLY force it, but the temp doesnt' change. Sorry I didn't give all that info earlier, but what do ya think could be wrong? I haven't changed the vacuum lines yet. I had to work 11 hours today.

While I'm at it, does ANYONE have a vacuum diagram for a 92?

I still need the diagram if anyone has it.

Are you sure it's mechanical, I mean, it's just funny i moved it back and forth before I popped my hood to do my tuneup, and I ONLY messed w/ the stuff under the hood, and it wouldn't move afterwards. I'm not doubting you, just trying to make sure.

I don't believe the heater door is vacuum activated, but based on your description of the problem, it shouldn't matter.

The key point is the amount of effort you have to expend to move the lever -- clear tip off that something's binding somewhere.

I'd start by pulling the trim panel and yanking out the heater control panel. It may be completely coincidental that this prob started right after a tune up. My guess is something slipped or dropped and is causing the cable to bind up.
