Vacuum Diagram

Does ANYONE have a vacuum diagram for a 92 3.1L Firebird? Mine's missing.

While I agree with TomP that Chilton's has gone downhill over the years, my 3rd Gen Camaro Chilton's does include a vacuum diagram for the A/C system. I could scan it and email it to you as an attachment.

In looking at it, there are actually 5 doors involved in the Heat/AC system. Only the Temperature Door is manually activated - the other 4 all use vacuum motors. And while the specifics change, this is true for all 3rdGen's.

I'll check the rest of the manual and see what other vacuum diagrams it may have.

I'd appreciate that alot. I'm not sure if my problem is vaccuum related (I still think it is tho. May be just a coincidence however). I still know that I broke some of them tho, and need the diagram to get it running right.

It's on its way to you, but I'm not sure how much help it will be. This diagram covers only the heater/AC vacuum. As I recall, your problems started after you did a tune up - all under the hood.

Chilton's has a few other diagrams that show vacuum connections, such as the Vaccum servo unit for the cruise control and so on. If there's a specific unit you have a question about, let me know.

LOL, once I figure out how to decipher that thing, I'll probably have my problem fixed.

You're welcome - no big deal actually.

As to Haynes vs. Chilton's, my recommendation is that you get both. Right after buying my RS, I found out the heater core had been bypassed. Reconnecting it confirmed my suspicion that the only reason anyone would do that is because it leaks. Any of you who've changed the core knows that it requires tearing apart the entire dash, dropping the steering column, moving the console back out of the way, etc.

Chilton's lists (pretty much) all the steps, but has just one or two little line drawings of all the components.

Haynes has a bunch of photos plus much better written instructions.

In other situations, the Chilton's is better.

The Haynes cost $12 and the Chilton's was $23. Less than two tanks of gas for both. Well worth it in my opinion.

And if you're really serious about keeping and working on your 3rd Gen, take TomP's advice and spring for the GM Service Manual. I've had one for every other car I've owned and plan to buy mine as soon as I pay off all the Xmas bills. (Should be Nov. 2001 or so. LOL)

Hey, 25th Do you have the hose diagram for under the hood? If not, that's cool, but i could use it too if you have it. Merry Christmas.

Hey 25thRS, check out the tech article here about changing your heater core.. to hell with Hayne's and Chilton's way of doing it, this way works and is a *LOT* less time consuming..

Thanks, Smurf, but it's too late - - did the core change a month ago. Having done it, I'm hard pressed to understand how the Tech article approach would work, but I'm not as flexible as you young guys
