2.8 auto manual shifting problems?

When driving normally around town, I stick it in OD and enjoy the gas mileage. But when I feel the need to race I like to manually shift my 700r4 so I can accelerate a lot harder. How much wear and tear does this do, and what can I do to keep the tranny in top shape?

well, to keep the Tranny in TipTop shape, i'd say DON'T RACE IT. J.k. that does normally work on most cars, when trying to keep things working well. But, from what i've heard, during a race, it's best to drop the car out of OD and into Drive, then let the car automatically shift itself. YOu won't have to shift into OD until about 105mph anyway.

To keep your trans in top running shape, you must change your trans fluid AND filter at least once a year. I do mine every year at the same time I do my major tuneup.

Adding a remote trans cooler, such as the B&M Supercooler (which I have), will also extend your transmission's life.
