Rear end with disc brakes ...
My rear end is starting to go, so it's time to hit the junkyard and get a replacement.
I know it's a longshot, but I'd really like to find a rear with disc brakes and something in the range of 3.23 to 3.42. My car has a 3.23 right now, which I'd like to upgrade, but I'll trade for rear disc.
Any suggestions on what I might pull this off of?

an IROC-Z
or you could get a 4th gen rear end but it will make the wheels stick out. I think 2". Do you guys think that would look bad? Like a thug's car...

Yea it will look bad in my opinion(some people like it though). If you do get a 4th gen remember some are 2.73's so ceck it first.
To fix the wheel problem of sticking out just upgrade to a 4th gen wheel or one made for the offset of the 4th gen. Then buy the spacers for the Front. I plan on doing this to my T/A because I don't want to giver up my Disc for a lower gear because I like my car to perform in all aspects. So this is the easy way to get a low gear and keep disc. 'Cause you know you can't find anything cheap for a 9-bolt

probably not, the offset for a corvette is huge. There's a place by my house that's selling 4 vette wheels with tires for 500 i think. They're the C4's though, least i think they're C4 wheels and not C5's. Looked good, but the offset is what turned me away, but how i'd love to look under my car and see 10 inches of rubber per wheelwell.
Well they sell them as "Corvette, Camaro, and Firebird" wheels. But they are talking about the fourth gen Fbodies. I hope they fit fine. Im sure they will. Oh and to the guy that posted this...Sorry man I took this way off topic.

I don't think 4th gen wheels fit our cars, I heard about a guy who tried it and it wouldn't fit, sorry but I forget why.
As for the IROC Z rear, my friend has an 89 and it does not have rear disc.

Bandit, you didn't mention what year of car you had.
If you can, hunt down an 89-up rear axle. 82-88 rear discs had a design problem- it can be fixed with the service bulletin parts, but those parts run over $200!
Also, the 89-up rear axle will re-use your J50 (meaning disk/drum brake setup) master cylinder! You would still need to grab the proportioning valve from the donor car, though. They're available "new" from GM for $80 or so. There's one more thing you have to check for- where the "front-to-rear steel brake line" enters the proportioning valve- on both YOUR car and the DONOR car. If they don't match, you'll either have to bend your car's brake line to meet the "new" prop valve, or (what I did) get the front-to-rear brake line from the donor car.
Search this topic on the Suspension/Chassis board, and the Transmission/Driveline board. I've posted many times about the swap.
Oh by the way I have a 1984 Trans Am's 3.73/posi/disc rear axle in my car. 1982-1985 were the only years you could find 3.73's. Make sure you check the ratio of the donor car's axle! I stumbled across an '88 formula with rear discs- but it had a 2.73:1 rear gear ratio. (My car had a 3.42 originally.)
