I heard that all the Jet Stage 2 does is lower the fan turn-on temp, and advance timing 3 degrees at WOT. I dunno, I put mine in and can't really notice a difference. I'm thinking of buying all the stuff to start burning my own proms.

I have a fastchip, but first let me brief you. I once had a hypertech chip and noticed nothing so after several years I gave it away. I bought a fastchip form Ed Wright and he claimed all the effects begin at 3/4 not WOT. So I tossed it in and it felt pepier. In fact with his chip I was able to pull a 16 with no real mods...

My mods are at http://www.geocities.com/overlift

Engine: LH0 3.1L
those are very similar to my #'s with no chip.(except for my NOx, my O2 sensor is lazy). here they are:
at 1759 RPM---
HC's: 11ppm
AVE.: 12ppm

CO: 0.01%
AVE.: 0.07%

NOx: 409ppm
AVE.: 194ppm
MAX: 891ppm

----looks like the chip doesn't make much difference.

I agree with Ovrclck 350; those "over the counter aftermarket" chips do very little. I've looked at the changes they've made and its pathetic. A complete rip-off, sorry to say. They should be ashamed of themselves. I wish some of the car magazines would look inside the code and tell the hot-rodding public what they REALLY have in them. But they won't because many are heavy advertisers. (They won't bite the hand that feeds them).

The worst part, some of them are BAD changes.

the chip does regulate fuel mix as well as timing plus it works with 160 thermastat which is important to me since I used to have heating problems in the summer and in traffic now I don't even see 180 unless i'm stuck in traffic for hours . I don't find much from the bottom end but the engine does run smooth start quick and rev to 6 grand effortlessly and by the way this is a carbed motor I can't wait to have the edelblock , holley and isky in and she what # she'll pull. But if you are thinking that a chip will hurt your emissions well all I can say is this one won't. And yes I would like to burn my own especially when the other mod's are done.

Actually a well burnt custom chip can often make an engine that might otherwise fail emissions actually pass. You can control so much more when you burn it yourself.

And then, when you get all the equipment and see what these "off-the-shelf" eproms do, you'll realize what a waste of money they were and wish that you'd just burnt your own.

The only GOOD news, is some of those "off-the-shelf" eproms use a ZIF socket to hold the eprom in, which can make the process simpler for some cars. On the cars that use a memcal, the ESC circuitry is on the memcal too; that's why you will often see a "piggyback" chip used for those cars. They intercept the eprom and let the ESC circuitry "flow through" to the memcal.
