Just turned 100,000 miles young!
So, is there anything special I should do at this milestone? I hear a lot of talk about a TV cable. Where is it and what does it do? I've got the weekend coming up with some work thrown in. Plus there is a stowstorm on the way, so plenty of time to plan. I'm on kind of a budget (saving for a new drum set) so whatever is posted and is not essential to the 100,000 mile mark may still be done, just at a later date. Thanks and post away!!

Right on Brian! What is the max hp I can add with nitrous without having to upgrade anything internal, how much is the kit, and where can I get it? I've looked on nosnitrous.com.
I'm looking at a Tama 7-piece with stackers from www.musiciansfriend.com It is pretty sweet.

your tv-cable question:
Her is what you need to do..........on the throttle lever, you should have 3 cables hooked to it.1 is the throttle cable...2 is the cruise cable...3 is the tv cable.
The tv cable goes in the same direction as the throttle cable...towards the rear.
Follow these cables where they pass thru a bracket. On the otherside of this bracket you will find the adjuster. You may have to turn the cable to see the lever. It looks like a boxed in U(or D).Press this lever in(it is housed inside of a black plastic sleeve)while holding it in push the end of the cable(where you can see the groves)thru the bracket.Once it is in all the way let go of the lever. Now push your throttle lever all the way open.It is now adjusted.
Where you see the cable pass thru the bracket....that assembly the cable actually pass thru is what adjust the cable.
I wish I could explain it with more detail. You just need to get in there and look for it.
Just look at the throttle lever on your throttle body...follow each cable untill you find it.(pasted from Kevin)

now that I know how to adjust it, what does it do? One other question, my sister has an 88 firebird with the same engine. The only difference I can see is that she has a serpentine drive. Why does her car seem to have much more get-up-and-go than my car? What was changed in those two years?
By the way, I only see a nitrous kit for 2.8 TBI. Does anyone make one for MPFI?

Yup, they make a MPFI nitrous kit- well, at least NOS Systems does. I'm not sure about other manufacturers (like CompuCar or NX or etc). It's been a while since I was to http://www.nosnitrous.com , but the kit is listed. It might be shown for 2.8 MPFI's in Beretta's and Corsica's and etc- same motor.
The TV cable controls line pressure inside the trans. (Line pressure = fluid pressure). Less line pressure gives you softer and earlier shifts, and can also burn up clutches if the pressure's too low. Higher line pressure gives harder & later shifts, and can damage seals if it's too high. The design of the cable is such that it's almost impossible to give too high of a line pressure, since the cable will "readjust" itself to it's proper condition. However, over time, the cable edges its way "forward", towards the front bumper, which lowers line pressure, which isn't good.
OOps- forgot about 86 vs 88 differences. There's not many. Serpentine belt drive started in 1987. 1987-up blocks are internally balanced, but that shouldn't affect performance. The 700r4 auto trans was improved in 1987 to correct some design flaws that caused "early" tranny deaths, so it could be that her trans is in better shape than yours.

Thanks Tom. I never thought of looking at the Beretta and Corsica kits! Thanks for the info on the cable. Now I know what I am adjusting and what it is supposed to do. The tranny improvements I guess could have done it, even though hers has many more miles on it.
To be exact Graeme, it is a Tama Rockstar 7 piece with stackers.

At least until I finish school and med-school and become a surgeon. Then who knows what I'll put in and do! I love the Flowmaster, and so does everyone else around here. It has the nice low rumble at idle. Throughout the rpm range doesn't sound bad either. I like to take it out of drive and go around town in 1st or 2nd. If you want loud, this is it. If you want a second opinion, get ahold of kernel. The last post I saw of his, he was getting one put on. I got mine out of Summit's catalog. I think I may have accidentally ordered the 3" inlet or they sent me the wrong one. Either way, I didn't want to wait for another ao I had to flare the intermediate pipe and really clamp the muffler. They run about $72.95 for the 2.5" inlet and $79.50 for the 3" inlet.
Man, I talk too much.
