Please help: stalling, rough idle
I adjusted my timing and now my car accelerates a lot better especially up hills. Before doing so my car had a moderately rough idle, idled at about 600, and never stalled when coasting.
Now my car idles at 500 when warm and sometimes stalles when coasting. Today I tried to raise the idle but with following the procedure in the tech article, when I d/c'd my IAC connector and tried to start my car it wouldnt last for more than half a second. After reading over the procedure many times and messing with it, I got impatient and just shut off the car, raised the idle, then unplugged the battery cable to reset the computer.
My car now idles at 750 in Drive, but now it seems to be running rougher at idle and it still stalls on me sometimes when coasting. This only happens when it has warmed up.
I did the MAF sensor test: unplugging it and seeing what happens, but the car still stalls. I'm not getting any error codes and wondering if I should get a shop to put it on a scope, or if it would be cheaper to just start replacing sensors.
Thanks.

I know what you've got.
How many miles? close to or over 100K?
You need a timing chain!
Do that & you'll be much happier.
Or just junk the 2.8 & throw in a 3.4 long block like I did.
It now pulls like a freight train!
Really, you need a timing chain.
How to test.
Pull of dist. cap, put socket (I beleive 17mm) & turn crank with socket.
Watch how long it takes to move distributor.
If it take about an 1" or so, you need a new chain!
Also, use 2 cans of Liquid Gumout & preminum gas. Waste the tank, then try same combo again. IF it doesn't get any better, you need some work!

Its actually got about 14,000m on a rebuilt engine. Ill try and that a check on that though. Maybe they installed a used timing chain to rebuild it.
i have the same problem but i have a 3.1 with like 165,000+ miles on it, its fine till it warms up then it will die sometimes if i coasting to a stop or if i'm sitting a light, i havent tried messin with the idle either.
