I blew my 2.8 engine
I was going to swap it for a V8 but I love my V6 two much to do that. I was wondering what would be the most one could bore out the block? The block WAS a new crate engine never being touched.
I wasnt to keep the V6 if at all possible.
Any fool can make a V8 fast but to make a V6 fast is an Art!

Wow.. I'm surprised Ked85 hasn't jumped in with his 3.4l swap stuff yet.. btw, this is a decent alternative to a rebuild. should put you near 160 horses unmodified.

AT 3:52 AM , I was ASLEEP!
Slip in a 3.4!
That's what I did
Costs the same and effort is the same!
I paid $800 for a running 40K mile engine.
Ask me how!
Don't waste time boring & stroking these V-6's. IMHO
If that's what you wanna do, sell the car & get a legit V-8 car to begin with!

All you need to do look at it this way.
You end up with exactly the way your engine currently looks in your engine bay.
What you are doing is re-dressing a stripped 3.4 long block with all the 2.8 stuff, from your harmed engine.
I am already coaching 3 people doing this swap.
IT'S VERY SIMPLE, BUT VERY DETAILED.
How does that help ya?
Everything from the 2.8 fits perfect.
Honest
I did this, so can you!

how fast can you guys really make these v6s? what can you do to these motors to make them fast? and by fast i mean 12sec quarter mile times. can these engines achive this? i have an IROC, i'm just curious about the potential of these engines cause i think a stock looking low optioned camaro or firebird with a somewhat stock appearing 6cylinder that was actually fast could suprise alot of people.

Wow, most guys have trouble making a v8 run 12's. And you want us to do that with a v6?

What about the dream of a twin turbo 60*? I was thinking of doing it with a 2.8, but these 3.4's are tempting! Strip your car down, stick those turbos in and go! Maybe hit 13's? Can you use nitrous on a TT car? It would be interesting for you to pull up to a light with a new Vette and be able to keep up for a little ways.......
Anyone know where to get turbos?

What with these V8 guys telling us that the V6 is not worth it, I mean I am not looking for 12's in the 1/4 mile, I am looking for a nice V6. If I wanted to drive that fast I would pull out my 1980 Firebird with a 400 Pontiac with posi out of storage and drive that. I think the V6 is beautiful and powerful in its own right.
I was think of that ked all I have to dois find a 3.4 block.

Personally,
I cannot wait to strengthen the current tranny, and have fun! Then, posi time!
I stripped all the stuff behind the front bumper and I have no true options in the car (electric windows, etc).
I can remove the AC compressor & other stuff too. Seats go bye and so does other weighty stuff! Lighter is better!
This car is lots of fun in LA traffic.
The front end leaps into the air!
No, it's not like my old 1968 Firebird 400/TH400 (maybe one of 12 RAII's made that year), but, the fun factor is 100% similar.
So much more than my 1974 Corvette!
Check out your options, you can win.
I think I have.

Basically everyone that yapped about twin-turbo'ing the 2.8 realized how much money and work it would be, and dropped the idea fast. It's one that's fun to talk about, but that doesn't get anywhere. Besides, for the same $$, you can build one hell of a v8!

regardless of engine, i think a car that can run 12 in the 1/4 is respectably fast. it is harder to do that with a v6, than with a v8, but going 12s with a v6 takes more brains and money. i was just curious as to how fast the average v6 can run and still be reliable. i haven't played with v6 cars much
I don't know if it is possible to do 12's with a 2.8 but I intend to get as close as I can,of course I do not intend to invest in the 3k twin turbo kit's that are out there. But 125 shot will do the same thing. Just remember if you want to have your ride for long the beef has to be in the crank and pistons if your building it build it to last.Forged,Forged,Forged!!! After you do the bottom end everyone has their own formula.Good Luck

Hey superz, TTA850 has/had one of his V6 TTAs *under* 12 in the 1/4... so, fyi, yeh, we *can* go fast... 'course a TTA hardly counts as a base model, but it IS a 6 =P

What one needs to do, is have both engines sitting outta the car, side by side.
Then strip as necessary, recreate, EXACTLY what you originally under the hood. This is so to your advantage, to do it this way!
In my case, (1985 2.8 & used a 1995 3.4)
I swapped intakes (used complete 2.8 set up)
I swapped fan sensor in back of passenger side cylinder head
I swapped timing chain covers & water pumps
LEFT THE 3.4 BALANCER & FLEXPLATE ON & USED THOSE (they are matched!)
Used the 3.4 fuel injectors, larger & different spray pattern
Swapped motor mounts
Oil filter housings
Oil Pan
Used the 3.4 exhaust manifolds
Used the 2.8 EGR assembly on the 3.4 exhaust manifolds
That's about it.
Get a running complete long block dresses with intake system, starter (if ya can), balancer flexplate, exhaust manifolds & spark plug wires.
No need for 3.4 igintion system.
Talk to me when you get one, I'll coach ya thru.
You'd be Student Number 5
